    Importing moose meat from Canada

Well, I sent my questions via email to both the USDA and the CBP; neither one answered my questions, but referred me to the sections on their websites that I had the questions about (like rereading it for the 100th time would be a eureka moment:cautious:) They then referred me to the other...

One gun or two? On safari

All I can tell you is what happened to me from personal experience. I hunted Limpopo in 2014 for plains game and took two rifles......a 30-06 and a .338 Win. mag. I was planning on taking ALL my game with the .338. First critter I shot was a blue wildebeest, and when I went to reload for my...

    Importing moose meat from Canada

Hello All; I was planning a cow moose hunt into Canada, but after reading the USDA website, it says that I can only bring in 50 lbs of meat..........if this is the case, then there is no point in my spending the money for the hunt. I then saw on the CBP website that I could bring in the...

    Recent RSA taxidermists experience

I hunted in Limpopo in 2014. I was planning on bringing my articles for taxidermy back to the states, but a slick presentation and a "we can't guarantee that the dip/pack will successfully make it back to the states" line convinced me to have it done in S.A. All I can say...

    Im done with steel shot

As someone else has stated, higher velocity steel loads kill better.........we shot a mallard once 13 TIMES after it hit the water and the bird still kept swimming; when we paddled the canoe out to get it, when we got the bird in the boat, and shook it, all you heard were pellets that fell out...

    Wanted Rem 7600 Long Action

Would it be possible to just buy one in 30-06 and have it rechambered? Or rebarreled? .....just wondering if that may be an options. $1750 seems a bit pricey to me for ANY Remington 7600.

Calibers that make your Professional Hunter shudder

Somebody please educate me....... Why all the hating on muzzle brakes?

    Reloader 17 & Varget Powder

Not sure where you are based in MI, but I was just at the Sportsman's warehouse in Troy.......they have two 1 lb canisters (well......as of 20 minutes ago they had two 1 lb canisters) of Varget....$50/ lb. Good luck on your quest!

    Should parents be held responsible?

Not true..........they were discovered in an abandoned building in Detroit. They may CLAIM that they were in "fear for their lives", but to date no one has been able to prove that. If they were going to "turn themselves in", they had plenty of opportunity to do so; and didn't. They also...

    Should parents be held responsible?

I'm from MI as well; in most cases, I don't feel that the parents should be held responsible......but in this case, I feel differently. There were red flags prior to this; yet the parents bought HIM the gun four days prior to the shooting. They knew he had issues, but didn't lock up the gun or...

    .22 scope question

I bought a GAMO air rifle scope for my recently acquired Remington 552.....I've taken the combo out now a couple of times for squirrels and so far the rifle has held it's zero. I think that the scope retails for around $40 or so. Good luck with your quest.

    .30-06, 180gr Bullets, favorite powder?

My 30-06 Interarms Mk X likes IMR 4064 with most 180 grain slugs............not a speedy load compared to others, but quite accurate. I also have a load using 180 grain Nosler partitions and 58.0 grains of Reloader 19, a Remington case, and a CCI 200 primer that is quite accurate as well.

What was your first African Game?

Blue wildebeest for me. Taken on first safari in 2014. Wasn't part of my package, but since this is the animal that always symbolized "Africa" for me, I really wanted to take one.,,,,,,so I payed a little extra for the privilege. Taken with my Ruger 77 in .338 Win Mag and 225 grain Nosler...

    Is bismuth shot worth it?

I handload and use both; steel in my 12 gauge 870 (which does most of my serious waterfowling work) and bismuth for my thinner barreled 1100 and my smaller gauges (16 and 20 gauge). I also like to hunt with traditional muzzleloaders (including shotguns), and steel is not an alternative for a...

sxs shotguns: 20 vs 12 for game?

Another vote for the 16 gauge............;) If you already shoot 12 gauges, then I would stick with a 12, as ammo can be hard to come by. I quit using lead hunting loads (with a few exceptions) a few years back. Makes life simpler if I jump a wood duck or mallard while out hunting...
