Why are Weatherby guns in 375+ calibers not liked on a Safari?

Dunno, but I just bought a Wby 6.5 RPM Mark V and it has an integral muzzle break. Likely newer 340s will have too. An older 340 Mark V I have lacks the break, but is tolerable to shoot, recoil not as quick as the .300 Wby, but pushes back harder.

Why are Weatherby guns in 375+ calibers not liked on a Safari?

Interesting that the Model 94 gets a mention. When I was a kid, my Dad always wanted me to shoot the Model 94 instead of his re-stocked and sporterized Springfields in 30-06. I preferred the Springfields, soft and easy recoil. That 5 lb 94 was painful.

...but, I really like the Weatherby stock design, it's quick, it comes to target easily and accurately, and it seems to me to handle recoil as well or better than other rifles I've shot. I've never suffered a Weatherby eyebrow, but have known those who did. The most uncomfortable stock I've run...

    35 Whelen

It's wise to remember that Freddy is out there. Another reason to carry a 35 Whelen.

Barnes Load Data cites 2701 fps for your load, not 2800. Speer Rifle Data shows a 250 gr HotCor @ 2709 fps, 66.2 gr Alliant Power Pro-MR 2000. The HotCor is a very good standard bullet, not so good on ball joints, but capable otherwise. Haven't tried either, don't see a reason to hot rod this...

    Defiance Machine CRF action

I contacted Defiance and noted that I'd appreciate having the CRF/3 pos safety option for my next project....

    Defiance Machine CRF action

I will contact Defiance, explaining that I have Defiance R1 action on my rifle (bought through Hill Country Rifle) that is CRF and 3 pos safety, that I am very pleased with it & etc., and think they ought to re-institute their supply of it. I note that the rifle is marked "Hill Country Rifle"...

...and if Defiance no longer does this, look at Parkwest (used to be Dakota Arms). The Model 97 that I have is true CRF with a 3 position safety and a cylindrical action. It too is very smooth.

    Defiance Machine CRF action

I have a Hill Country Rifle in 35 Whelen with this action, spec'd for CRF and 3 position safety. It is true controlled round feed, like a Mauser or Springfield. Smooth as silk. I'm very pleased.
