I have attempted to update the contact points for transiting Frankfurt.

I have found another email that may provide further direction in the last image.

Travelling from DFW to SA.
Has anyone done this lately? Trying to get an idea on where to go first when I get to DFW with the rifle case in order to get it checked and checked in. Do I go directly to the Delta desk or is there a separate TSA firearms check in area?

Most airports here in the US you go to the airline first and declare it. They will then give you a tag that says that the firearm is unloaded. Then the airline will have someone take it to the TSA inspection area with you in tow.

My last trip the TSA inspector just x-rayed the case and gave it back to the airline representative to take care of and I was on my way. Another time the only difference was that they had me open the case for their inspection and then had me lock it back up, and I was on my way to security and my gate.

I know the no lever action part for South Africa is incorrect and I believe some of the other firearms that are listed as restricted are incorrect also. I just returned from there and took a lever action, here is the information from the PHASA page.

Has anyone transmitted Italy recently with a firearm? Requirements and experience?

Thanks

Has anyone flown Ethiopian airlines recently with a firearm? I’m going Dulles-Addis Ababa-Windhoek this summer. I know i need to inform the airline and fill out a declaration but just wondering if anyone has done this and had any hassles. Thx

I’ve done it once before, but that was some years ago. No problems then. I’m flying Ethiopian again to Addis on March 3, taking a firearm. Like you I’ve been told fill in a form and no worries.

I can let you know once I’ve done it (again)!

Make sure you have 4+ copies of all your documents and know you have to physically inspect weapons in Addis before leaving. They'll pull you off the plane and won't let you leave if you don't!

I have an 1:20 layover for connection at Addis for the leg to Windhoek. Are you saying i will have to get my baggage off the plane, inspect, and recheck it? I read that i should ensure at departure from Dulles that it is checked all the way thru.

They will pull your weapons case for you, no worry there. But yes you'll be escorted to inspect it. And no re-tagging bags either assuming your ticket does not break in Addis.

Ok thx. When i flew there in 2018 i only took a bow. It was in a case that could be used for gun (if broken down). Fortunately it checked through without me having to inspect.

Archery is pretty seamless with Ethiopian, just the guns have that extra step.

I just don’t want them to mistake a square case holding a bow for a gun and have the case held in Addis

You can notify them in advance that you have archery equipment, that's what I'd recommend. Then if they have any questions they check the reservation notes first.

In 2022, I took Ethiopian airlines, Vienna - Addis Abbeba - Windhoek.

All smooth, and no extra charges for gun (unlike some other companies like Luft hansa).

In Addis Abbeba, we went to cargo handling space (like basement), to check the gun, and serial numbers.
In storage cargo area there is no copy machine.
So, prepare photo copy of all your gun documents, and give a photo copy to the security official.
he will appreciate so he doesn't need to go upstairs to make copy and come back down. It will aslo make faster procedure.
After gun is checked and verified, case locked again, go up to your gate and wait for boarding time

All went smooth in my experience

I have read in various places on this site that South Africa only allows two firearms when transitioning to another country, allows only two firearms to be imported for hunting, and also that it allows four firearms to be imported for hunting? Is it different for transitions to other countries vs hunting in-country? And is it two or four?

Hullo!

I'm looking for a resource allowing me to drop off & store rifles in Frankfurt while I'm attending Madrid and London for a week or so.
I don't want to lug them along for that leg of the trip (especially in the UK) so I'd like up to 2 weeks storage.
After that, I'll return to pick them up in Frankfort and fly to JoBerg for a hunt.

Planning Lufthansa from DFW to Frankfurt and Frankfurt to JoBerg. Just need a storage site.

Thanks much

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)
