    SOUTH AFRICA: White Lion Safaris

Glad I ran across this. Yes, it was 2017, but still an exceptional review. We are locking in a 4-person hunt with White Lion for Spring 2027.

SOUTH AFRICA: Hunt With White Lion Safaris

Hello, Randall! Amazing Hartebeest! My brother and I and our two nephews will be doing our first Africa hunt with White Lion in spring of 2027 (not soon enough!).

Hunt over water; Shoot from truck

Great point on “the story to tell”. I’ve watched a mess of the hunt videos, with many showing great scenes of the group sitting around the campfire. I can imagine…”Tell us about YOUR day Brian”. “Well, I shot a [fill in the blank] off the truck.

Hunt over water; Shoot from truck

Thank you “HookMeUpII”. Great feedback based on your experience…i.e.- seeing more at water holes whether we choose to shoot or not. Also, good to know on the warthogs. My brother retired from the Air National Guard and his crew worked on the A10 Warthogs, so guess what the #1 animal is on his...

Hunt over water; Shoot from truck

Thanks, Albert. Very good points. We’ve already chosen our outfitter (without having had that specific conversation). Met them at a meet-and-greet put on by our taxidermist who has a third hunt scheduled with them next spring. Comes highly recommended by taxidermist and from multiple...

Thanks, “bakerb”. Makes very good sense to me. No DG for us on this first trip. Strictly PG.

Hunt over water; Shoot from truck

Thank you, “Stetsonham”. I suspect this may be a “9mm vs. 40S&W” thing, but I can see it both ways. I have to wonder if some folks start out thinking one way, but then change up their plan if they hit Day 6 or 7 and have several animals remaining on their list….especially if they’re not...

Hunt over water; Shoot from truck

First, I want to thank everyone who has responded to my other posts as I plan my first hunt. You have been a wealth of information and I am most grateful. For this post…. I would like to get a feel for what’s acceptable/sporting on two topics… 1) Hunting over water 2) Shooting animals from the...

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

I have some ammo coming from Choice Ammunition…190gr. Barnes LRX, 200gr. Nosler Accubonds, 212gr. Barnes LRX. Will try all, but any of those will do the trick. Basically, with sight-in at 200, one hashmark up on the reticle will pretty much put me on at 50-150yds. Have studied the reticle vs...

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

Forgot to mention. Based on other posts, I purchased “The Perfect Shot II” book and have been reading it. Great book. I got a chuckle out of seeing in one hunt video…the PH pulled out that book and was showing the hunter where to aim for the day’s planned hunt.

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

Thank you, “HookMeUpII”! This is great info. - The Primos Trigger Stick tripod has been ordered. - I will sight in at 200 yards at the range, then we will practice there and also at my brother’s where we have steel at 100 yards. - I envision repeatedly mimicking a stalk and then getting up on...

Thank you, “Red Leg”! The downside of 2027 is the L O N G wait (), but it gives plenty of time for asking the right questions, learning, prep and PRACTICE.

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

Thank you, “Just Gina”. If my PH “doesn’t care”, my gut tells me to go with a Gen 3 Primos Trigger Stick Tripod. I assume if you bring along your preferred set, they will let you use whatever you want? I might still get and try a set of quad sticks to see if I like them, BUT I’ve watched...

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

Thank you, “375Fox” (and others). Based on feedback from my post, I’m definitely getting a set of good quad sticks and…of course…practicing until I’m very comfortable before departing.

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

Thanks, “375Fox”! Great info to know. Per advice from another responder, I’ve emailed my outfitter to confirm what kind of sticks they use and whether it varies from PH to PH. I suppose if the hunter has a preference, they MIGHT accommodate if they have that style of sticks available (or...

Howdy. South Africa PG hunt planned for 2027. Question: Would you recommend getting one of the “double” bipods to practice on prior to the trip? (I did a quick search and didn’t find this already asked and answered, but if I missed it, please refer me over to another thread. - Apologies if that...

    300 PRC

Thanks, “Puddle”. I like the way you think! . At this point, planning on a NightForce NX8 2.5-20 to give me options. I know this “loose nut” is good to 300yds., but my club has a range out to 500 meters. Like you say…plenty of time to practice (sticks AND bipod). Thanks again!

    300 PRC

Thanks, “AES”. I was leaning Hornady 190gr. CX, but I see that Choice Ammunition (where I’ve gotten some of my “good stuff” before) loads 220gr. ELD-X. I’ll do some digging into ballistics and make a decision. Thanks!

    300 PRC

Thank you, “meigsbucks”! I appreciate the response. I’m very much looking forward to shooting and dialing in the .300 PRC. I will shoot it suppressed, so recoil will be tamed significantly. 2027 won’t get here soon enough!

    300 PRC

Thanks, “Mtn_Infantry”! I will definitely check out the Terminal Ascent ammo when it’s available. I have a nephew who shoots that in his .300WM and the groupings are amazing.

    300 PRC

Thanks, “Tra3”. Yes….I’ve watched many videos of buffalo hunts with almost all requiring 2nd or 3rd (or 4th) follow-up shots. In many, it’s a very quick shot on a buffalo that often pops up (or toward). RARELY ideal circumstances and…I’m assuming…why I’m seeing open sights and red dots?
  38. P

    300 PRC

Thanks! Good reminder. Every one of them has a 375 H&H (or equivalent), so really no need to buy a new rifle that I wouldn’t likely use on any non-Africa animal.

    300 PRC

Thank you, “Berettaco”. I’m a “newb”, but…. As I understand it, correct…for “heavy for caliber bullets”. I don’t reload, so am limited. 212gr. ELD-X is a good option. 225gr. match is an option, but I see strong opinions on not shooting a match bullet for hunting. Going from memory, the CX is...

    300 PRC

I have a new rifle chambered in 300 PRC on the way soon for my first Africa hunt. Plan to shoot the 190gr. CX bullet from Hornady. After research and some inputs from experienced hunters, I “upgraded” from my planned 7mm PRC to 300 PRC. My question…. Although I will not be hunting any DG on my...

    Hello from West Michigan!

I’ve already learned a lot from this website as we plan our South Africa hunt with Numzaan Safaris in 2027! That feels SO far away and I’m hoping it gets here quickly! God willing, and with good health, I hope it is the first of several Africa hunts!
