    Cites, hunting logistics

This is where it gets confusing because I’m sure some lechwe are on it ,(if not all) but I have seen that cites also seems to be country specific in some instances. Again I’m sure I’ve seen some sable listed but I was hoping the most usually hunted subspecies was off it. It must also be very...

    Cites, hunting logistics

Ah I think I’ll need one of those for a black wildebeest. How far ahead would you normally recommend sorting this with a broker?

    Cites, hunting logistics

Thanks folks! Apologies I had no idea this was a role or requirement. So I have actually just messaged a broker this AM who my taxidermist had suggested. I’d purely thought that they were a delivery company picking up the shipment from the airport on a delivery basis and it was ‘cleared’...

    Cites, hunting logistics

Will drop the PH a message in the near future. It’s a year away so don’t want to seem too keen! This will show my naivety, would the broker be the person I’m planning using to do my dip and pack at the end of the hunt? Or is this something that has to be organised separately either by myself /...

    Cites, hunting logistics

Ah well that in itself was something I didn’t know so worth asking. Didn’t realise they were done in advance. More like a tag system then?

    Cites, hunting logistics

Thought I’d run this past folk as I’ve got my first plains game hunt next year. Now the uk ,(and most other countries) seems to be getting harder to import ‘trophies’ for want of a better word and they are currently talking about a cites import ban. Now I’m not realistically going after cites...

I thought Belgium had a trophy import ban, I’ll need to check! Thanks for the recommendation

Best taxidermy mounts? Needing some inspiration

Thanks! Splitting image do seem very good on paper. Although they will only show the best ones I suppose. Didn’t think the floor ped would take that much more space but I suppose it does. I’ve got a red stag on a ped and figured it can ‘go anywhere’ if we move house and walls change etc. I feel...

Best taxidermy mounts? Needing some inspiration

Agree with that! Nothing worse than bad taxidermy. Although I very much get the impression, field prep prior to taxidermist makes a heck of a difference

Best taxidermy mounts? Needing some inspiration

They all look great! Work done in states or Africa? Funnily, if I get a black wildebeest the I will go for a euro mount, they look great! Also if anyone has any zebra mounts in particular, I’d be very interested. Who knows if I’ll hunt one but I’m tempted. I still can’t decide if the chess...

Best taxidermy mounts? Needing some inspiration

I like the YouTube idea, thanks! I’ve certainly got a chap here that I would use all being well. Doesn’t hurt to have a plan B though in case of retirement or other commitments coming up

Best taxidermy mounts? Needing some inspiration

Right folks, what’s the best taxidermy mounts you’ve either 1) seen on the internet if you can find the photo or 2) have had done yourself? I’ll probably get the mounts done in the uk,(spread costs out if needed, actually get the capes across before any daft legislation etc) but who would you...

    First trip booked

Thats an interesting point re the trophies. Sounds fairly impractical to insure. My biggest concern was if I bank transfer a deposit and the outfitter closes down,(which would just be unfortunate really) you’ve no way of getting that back so wondered if there was a travel insurance that would...

    First trip booked

Well folks, after a long time sitting on the fence, the deposit is going through for a hunt for next May in South Africa. Any pearls of wisdom from folk? I still haven’t decided if it’s worth the hassle taking my own rifle,(although I very much like the familiarity of it). It could be as...

    Kudu mounts? Low-ish ceiling

Amazing gents! Thank you very much. Certainly I can fit one into the house that’s for sure. 220cm total mount seems to be the ball park. What I need to decide is whether I want the mount at eye level or.. on a low base so it fits anywhere but might not be in its best position. I do like a...

    Kudu mounts? Low-ish ceiling

Thanks folks, much appreciated! They’re huge. I think she’ll have a heart attack to be honest if it ever clicks and I bring one back. BigSteve that looks a really nice mount! Like the skin on the base too. I think our living room is 8 feet - the one room I’d probably get the most flack for...

    Kudu mounts? Low-ish ceiling

That room is top notch. Love it! I did wonder about the head position. I’ll keep that in mind. Also could maybe shave 2” off the stand but I think the whole point of the pedestal is that the animal is at eye level I suppose
  18. wildfowler.250

    Kudu mounts? Low-ish ceiling

If anyone can measure their mounts as well, that would be massively appreciated. I’ve no real life idea how big a 52”, 55” or monster kudu even is..

    Kudu mounts? Low-ish ceiling

Well folks, I’m sure this has been asked numerous times on here but I’m needing some real life experience. The ‘reloading’ room where anything boy related can go in without many questions asked is 2M high. I’d a red stag pedestal mount that I was really pleased with a couple of years ago...

.270 for plains game? Should I be scrapping it?

Folks , I thought I’d just feed back into this,(haven’t been on in a while). It’s been interesting to see the different opinions. I think a .30-06 would be more versatile but both PHs use either a .270 or a .308 so that’s put my mind at ease a lot as well. Cheers!

.270 for plains game? Should I be scrapping it?

Cheers folks! I will reply in full later when I can after work. Realistically Eland isn’t really on the plans unless tags haven't been filled and one that’s ’too good to pass up’ comes out on the last day so to speak. Biggest pain is going to be swift A frames. They seem in short supply even...

.270 for plains game? Should I be scrapping it?

Well that’s what I thought re eland although as I say, they’re not on the list but they’re not off it either. I take it kudu / Zeb / wildebeest with 150 grain A frame quartering through the shoulder will be dead? I prefer a broadside but if I’m having to turn a lot of stuff down because of it...

.270 for plains game? Should I be scrapping it?

Thanks folks! Can I ask why the swift A frames are so popular on here? Are they a lead core? Tend to be an accubonds man. I’ve seen good things about partitions but they’re hard to get here. A frames seem to come up a lot though!

.270 for plains game? Should I be scrapping it?

Here’s a question folks. Planning a SA hunt for plains game next year or 2026. I’ve posted similarly on a uk stalking thread so apologies if folks see this twice but trying to get as much feedback as possible. Really only going for plains game. Kudu, nyala, springbok , impala. With or without...

Best time of year to go?

Thanks! Really appreciated. Is June much drier? Honestly I need to google the weather. I’ve been years deciding I’m going and now going to bite the bullet but no idea what cool is for SA compared to uk! Well I was leaning away from Jan anyway because I thought it would be too green. Possibly...

Best time of year to go?

Folks, just curious on what you think is the best time to hunt SA? The outfitter had suggested either Jan or May being the best for kudu? I’m assuming Jan the bulls are not split up so easier to choose? Or May because maybe less cover? Which would you go for? I assume the mosquitoes will be...

    Costs help? Particularly shipping..

Thanks Philip! Interesting to know ocean isn’t as reasonable as you’d think then. Air freight it is. Certainly I’d be looking to do the work in the uk. Mainly to spread the costs out but also because it means that any issues with the mount can be sorted at home. I’d hope dipped and packed...

    Costs help? Particularly shipping..

Sounds a good trip! Amazing how they can disappear despite being ‘fenced’! Thanks! I can definitely work with that. More than I’m happy with and at the same time, figured it “could have been worse”. I assume air shipping still takes about 1 year even with the taxidermy being done back home...

    Costs help? Particularly shipping..

Thanks! Will have a look. Are these guys considered the “go to” now? Brilliant, thanks! I can get some estimates with that crate size as well because I was looking at 5-6 animals too. The dip and pack itself doesn’t seem too expensive? It seems to be mainly the shipping? That makes a lot of...

    Costs help? Particularly shipping..

Right folks , I’m looking for some advice if possible please. I’ve posted previously on one other deer stalking forum in the last few months but thought that there might be more / additional feedback on here. I’m basically trying to work out if and when I can afford a SA hunt,(currently...

Put and take / property size?

Thanks. And I do feel this is very sensible given that they’re well reviewed outfitters. But if they have a high volume of customers that they have, how would you ever know they’re not routinely topping up? I’m not suggesting they are. It’s just trying to work out how to avoid the whole...

Put and take / property size?

Well folks, this isn’t intended as a can of worms so please bear with me as it’s meant with good intentions. I’ve just read an old thread from 2012 as I’m keen to try my best to avoid somewhere that’s put and take. Now, I can completely understand possibly buying in a couple of males as a one...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Aloeafrica? Plus Some Newbie Questions

That’s a cracker. It basically comes down to finance and space. I’m not in that ‘forever’ house at the moment and it’s a juggle as it is. I dont think I could afford an eland on top of 2 biggies like kudu and nyala. But then for the same money, you could hunt a wildebeest and warthog etc. Gives...

Sorry to hear that! Good to know they’re good guys though. Several people have spoken highly of him. And thanks for the alternative outfitter suggestion as well! Thanks Adam. I’m after a hard hunt, lasts far longer in the memory. They’re great animals! My main bucket list is kudu, nyala...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Aloeafrica? Plus Some Newbie Questions

Good to hear it! just did a rough google and 10 hours drive between the two areas. KZN ticked more boxes for species but Limpopo seems like nice scenery and from what I’ve heard, more up close tracking

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Aloeafrica? Plus Some Newbie Questions

Thanks, am I right in thinking KMG and Game4Africa? Yes I got decent feedback from them. They’d two areas. I was leaning more to Limpopo but they said I’d be better in Kwazulu Natal. To me, I’m less fussed on area and more on the fair chase aspect. Thanks! In many ways , it does make sense...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Aloeafrica? Plus Some Newbie Questions

I’ve had really good feedback from one uk hunter. I’m slightly surprised how little feedback I can find on here though. Did find one older post from 2015 but that was it. Basically I’m after a really good hike / spot and stalk. The less from the vehicle the better. Yep the dip and ship is...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Aloeafrica? Plus Some Newbie Questions

Hi folks, I’m looking into booking a trip to SA probably 2 years ahead,(got a lot on next year). I’m keen on the above outfitter and was wondering if anyone on here has hunted with them? My other question if possible is, how much is dip and pack/shipping and how long does it tend to take to...

    Help me pick an outfitter

Really looking at kudu, nyala, springbok and impala, maybe gemsbok. Even if it was over two big areas that’s great. Just don’t want to go to a ranch for each individual species if that makes sense Thanks for the reply!

    Help me pick an outfitter

Hi guys, so I’m going around in circles a little bit here and was wondering if you can help me from experience. So what I want to hunt is, large areas, can be high fence. Must be spot and stalk. With a rifle. I’ve seen videos from people on here who are site regulars where,(mainly for bow...

    Eastern cape vs limpopo?

Well at the British shooting show the event centre it’s been held at has just banned agencies from showing after complaints so options are limited in that regard.. Might broach the subject of zebra with the family and see what the reaction is like.. a pedestal zebra might push it a bit far!
  47. wildfowler.250

    Eastern cape vs limpopo?

Yes first time. Looking for kudu, nyala , sprinbok,(common) and impala as my main 4. Probably like to add either a gemsbok or waterbuck,(can’t decide) on top of that. I keep seeing everyone recommend a zebra hunt but I’m just not too sure!

    Eastern cape vs limpopo?

Thanks guys! Both sound terrific to be honest. I think it’ll be down to the outfitters rather than the area as both seem brilliant. On the plus point I might be able to convince the old man to tag along and do a little bit of hunting as well so won’t have to do the whole trip solo either which...
