Was in Academy Sports looking at guns. The gun counter salesperson showed me a Yildiz .410 gauge shotgun in both double and over/under barrel designs. The gun is made in Turkey and I think that Academy Sports is the sales outlet for the brand in the U.S. Considering using a .410 for squirrel hunting.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or experience with this brand?

How does resale or trade value of the gun hold up?

What other brands .410 ga. shotguns would you recommend for squirrel hunting? For the record, I already own .22 caliber rifles. Looking for a easy shooting dependable shotgun.

I bought a Yildiz .410 sxs last year. It's a fun gun to shoot and I like it. Yildiz guns seem to be fairly well made but if you are are worried about resale or trade I'd pass and go for another gun. I also use a .410 Wingmaster for small game.

I picked up a Stroger 410 side by side almost 30 years ago for a truck and ATV gun. It has accounted for a lot of grouse over the years.

I have used a Thompson center contender in .410 on squirrels to great effect in the past, they are easy to carry and shoot well, another .410 that would be a hoot to use was the one Winchester made in a lever action, good luck in your search

Had quite a few yildez that I bought from academy - hand picked the ones with stellar stocks, some look like a 2x4 and others are grade 4 walnut - crazy!!!
they are a good budget shotgun but the receivers are alloy - not sure they would hold up to 10,000 rounds but if you were shooting that much you’d have something else. Overall, not a bad choice for an entry level shotgun - find one of the guys at the counter who is friendly and they will grab a few out of the back and let you pick the nice wood.

I’ve got an O/U and had a 12 gauge SxS that I traded, the SxS was a beautiful gun, the highest grade they import and I was not embarrassed to carry it to the field with my customers. Nobody could believe it came from Academy! Lol. The over under has accounted for a lot of dove after bouncing around in my Side by Side Polaris. Not a damn thing wrong with them but as mentioned there are pretty ones and FUGLEY ones!

I bought my son a 20g Yildiz O/U for his 18th birthday, and I liked shooting it so much that I bought myself one too. I’ve hunted birds and small game with it for several years and it has held up very well. The aluminum alloy receiver makes it lightweight and pleasant to carry; not sure what recoil would be like on a 12g though.

It probably doesn’t hold any resale value, and snobs won’t like it, but it’s a great entry-level or knock around O/U gun.

Bought one for my wife in 28ga O/U. It looks nice goes bang when you pull the trigger. She dove hunts with it and she did not want to deal with recoil. My son 8 shoots it too. Like others have said if resale or trades are a worry probably need to look at others. I have been happy with it, wife loves it.

If it gets people into the shooting sports, I'm all for it. Even if it's considered and "entry level" firearm, we all have to start somewhere.

As to placing a value on it...you should be more concerned with enjoying it than selling it later. Your value will me measured in the smiles on the faces of the shooters. Not much better than watching someone break their first clay or take down a strutting Turkey.

I thought about it but didn't like how the muzzle shape flared out - weird. Otherwise a decent shotgun. I'd probably rather have a cz though

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
