I’m headed to Canada for polar bear hunt in April. Does anyone have any arctic clothing or boots to lend or for sale or know where I can get some? Some outfitters provide it but mine doesn’t. I’m 6’1” and 185 pounds but bigger is fine too for this hunt due to layering. Thanks for any help or advice!

Also, considering taking either my AHR CZ550 375 H&H Mag or my AHR CZ550 458 Lott. Either will work but what are your opinions? I’m leaning towards the 375. I’ve use the Lott for backing up hunters when guiding brown bear but thought it might be fun this time to go with the 375 instead.

where are you going? it might to help to get you dressed. i am surprised about the no providing from your outfitter. you will need goggles, very good gloves and mitten and good shoes/boots with removable liners. for the first layer i will use merino the same for socks/liner but i never hunted polar bear but i have my share of hunting and fishing in the yukon during our cold winter and you will need to protect you from the wind too.

can you get in contact with the local trapper association or your guide ahead and check with him/them their recommendations ?

good luck with the preparation.

you will need some optic with quick detach rings and i will take the 375. you will see what they use as a back up. if member of the ranger patrol a 308 win otherwise a 303 british and 222 ...

Big Rays in Anchorage. The new bunny boots are hard to beat

Scott, I’d take the .375 or even something smaller. I can’t recall Mike’s last name but he was from Canada North Outfitting back in the late ‘80’s and I was looking at a polar bear hunt so we talked about rifles. I remember him telling me they mostly shot polar bears with small rifles, like 270’s and even smaller, as the bears died pretty quickly when shot in the lungs in those frigid temperatures. He said the cold air getting into their chest cavity caused them to die pretty quickly. I’d think a 338 would be about ideal, so why not take the 375 among those two choices you mentioned.

I’ve got a Canada Goose -60 parka. I used it for mushing when I was training Iditarod racing dogs. It’s over sized for me (5’10, 160#) so it would work for you.

It’s gray, not pretty, smells like sheep from lambing and the ruff got tore. For a loaner it’d do.

Scott, I have one rig left from mountaineering at extreme altitudes. It’s Mountain Hardware brand XL. You can borrow. I sold my LaSportiva Olympus Mons and Spantic boots. Those would have worked well.

And I recommend a real fur bomber hat and mittens. Good gloves inside the mittens.
The hat alone will keep you warm.

I’ll send it all to you. Or I can connect you with the trapper in North Dakota that makes them. Cheaply.

That’s fox hat, I’m sure, but what are the mittens? I’ve got two sets of beaver mittens made by a fellow musher from YT I could never part with. Yours are interesting looking.

It’s actually a red color phase coyote bomber hat. It does look just like Fox. But it’s coyote.

The mittens are Beaver. He had made me 3 hats and 2 mittens. Skunk, mink, beaver etc

What size boots? I used to live above the Arctic circle and had all the gear then but still have a pair of new boots...size 11 I think. The Canada Goose line of parkas is some of the best gear you can find. Or lacking that, find some ECWS military clothing like bunny boots.

NORTHEN OUTFITTERS all the way. You can survive a water dunking in them. Check out their unique directional foam which has the ability to dry you out with nothing more than your own body heat. You will probably have to use their vents to cool down.

The local inuit offered seal clothing rentals for approxiamately $200 US, I chose to buy my own thinking I may need them in the future I will try and find the hunt pictures to show what the seal clothing looked like figured I was going to a great expense to do that hunt did not want to end it because I could not deal with the cold weather, actually small part of the hunt made it enjoyable, problem was on some of the stalks had to open up the garment to keep the heat down. Pict of me in the 1St, pict 2 hunt on dog sled pulled by 10 Icelandic sled dogs Pict 3 seal clothing with atvs used

I’ll bet! Fur is heavy. But so warm for just sitting still.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
