I've been going back and forth with some of the nice folks on this site who have shared some of their knowledge on the subject and before I just go and order online somewhere, I wanted to first see if anyone has a suitable candidate laying around or on a rifle that isn't used any longer, etc. OR if I have to buy new, I would like to use a AH vendor if possible. This is going on a classic no frills Whitworth Interarms that I recently bought off of GI (pic below). Please let me know if anyone has anything they are willing to part with. Budget is <$2k range, or slightly higher for a good value. I hope to take possession of the rifle later this week and would like to get something on it ASAP to start shooting! Thank you.

Good buy on the Whitworth!! Looks like you'll have a solid setup when you get it all sorted out!!

Tract Toric is the best value by a very wide margin for me, you have to get into the Mark 6 and 8 before the Leupold gets to be on par.

Having said that, my last two trips to Africa I have taken a VX6, once on a 375 and once on a 416, couldn't have asked for more, it was perfectly fine.

Buckums:
...If you're interested, I have a VX3 2.5-8x matte, duplex, new in the box, still in the wrapper. $450 shipped lower 48.

I have basic Leupold 1.5-6 types on my Whitworths. Very functional and can be found on the used market (eBay) for easy money. Sorry I don’t have one available for you, but I’m sure you can find one with just a little looking.

I have a 1-4 Vortex Viper PST with lighted recital I could part with.

What is a LVPO? From replies I’m guessing it’s a scope but never seen the abbreviation before.
It's usually LPVO - Low Power Variable Optic

I have a VX5 1-5x24 on my 404J. I like it. Thinking about either a 2-10x40 for my Ruger #1 375 H&H, or possibly a VX6 1-6x24.

I ain't getting any younger. The older I get, the more I value FOV. Don't need a lot of magnification to find the intersection of the horizontal midline and the crease on an animal that weighs 500 or more pounds.

bump for last attempt at anyone on the forum that might have something before buying new. I really want to stay 1-2 power on the low magnification. i have a spotty history with Vortex so not wanting to go that route Pls let me know what you have if there is anyone wanting to offload an extra scope not being used, etc. thanks!

Look out online for used Swaro Z6i , probably the best deal you can find. Picked up a gen1 a few months ago for 1000€ or 1180$

I have the 2.5-8 leupy on my .375 M70 and it is a great match. Just mount it as close to the bore as possible for good cheekweld.

off hand. What model rings would this rifle use? My gun shop doesn’t know.

Sorry about this post. Was meant to be in a direct PM to someone. I was actually standing in the gun shop on my little phone and replied to the wrong thing. Apologies and please ignore.

It depends on the base. I recently tried a Picatinny for my 9.3x62. Nominally, it's a Mauser 98, but the holes were off by a skosh for the Picatinny. Your Whitworth should be the same hole spacing and same height bridges as my Zastava M70 bolt rifle. Can't remember off the top of my head, but seems like my bases are Weaver steel, 2 piece. They were the only ones I could find.

Any Weaver-style rings will work with that 2-piece base. One thing to be mindful of on 2 piece bases is the distance between them. You'll need a scope with a long enough tube that you have a bit of wiggle-room on eye relief. Most scopes will be fine, but check the specs to make sure it's long enough.

Pretty sure these are the bases I ordered:

Any of the Leupold line with the Fire-Dot Duplex in low rings would be a good match for your rifle. Several models have 1.25 minimum magnification and 4 inches of eye relief, which can be important in keeping your eye from kissing the ocular lens of the scope at a high rate of speed.

If you asked a year ago, several local stores had Leupold VXR 1.25-4 scopes at close out prices because they were discontinued. Cabela's has Leupold VX3 and VX5 models of this type at a 15-20% discount if you cant find one here.

BTW, very sharp looking rifle. Can't wait to see you go on a hunt with it.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
