I reload for every caliber I own, but so far just can’t justify the expense of tooling up for this Ruger #1 .450/.400 3” NE. I haven’t had any luck locating Snap Caps or custom dummies online (NECG caps are not full length) and want to practice my reloading technique. So, if you do reload for the .450/.400 3” and are interested in pressing me out 3 dummies please PM me!

Thanks!

….for a fee, of course! Didn’t make that part clear.

wrote CAD program to 3D print cartridges, either to Saami or CIP specifications and some used for feed work. Not sure how much of demand would be for such a thing. Did not consider rimmed.

I have dies and bullets. If you have some brass, you can send it to me along with a return postage paid envelope and I will put them together for you and send back.

I've got brass if you need some.

So, do you put something in the round to make it feel the same? I've just used live rounds whenever I've practiced loading; and what I practice is: pulling two rounds from my belt with my thumb and two fingers, rotate my hand palm up, and drop both rounds into the empty barrels.

So far, using that technique I've been able to hit/stop the pop-ups and chargers at FTW. Usually there's 3 - I was there about a month ago and they threw in an extra pop-up. If you can successfully hit the first ones as soon as they pop, you've got plenty of time for the chargers.

Just remember, "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast".

My biggest challenge had been the break on my double, but after a few hundred rounds it loosened up a bit.

I'm in East Texas as well - send me your address and I'll mail you some brass.

Thanks BGHNTR416…looks like my dilemma is getting solved but your offer is much appreciated!

Great advice, Franco. No, I haven’t added weight to my other action proving rounds and these .450/.400s should be ok empty as well. My goal is to develop a rapid and simple rechambering technique with this #1 which will probably mimic the one you described.

Thank you for the most generous brass offer! I decided to bypass this caliber from my reloading queue as I just can’t justify the tooling expense when the Hornady 400g DGS rounds print very nicely in this rifle. Thanks anyway!

@Papa72
was able to do the morphing. Sent print file to Tim at Matrix Gunsmithing as he does the real work:) OAL is 3.685 per Hornady manual.

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
