Winchester Super Grade m70 .7mm-08

I had a similar experience on a different forum on a rifle I really wanted. I talked to the guy on the phone and then he wanted me to send the money through Venmo to his niece. Asked for a video call and he wouldn’t do it.

So as promised I will relay the outcome. This 100% was a scam. I have been a member since 2021 and not really big on posting online. I have found this forum to be amazing resource for the trips to Africa I have made over the past 4 years. Also there are some excellent firearms that come available in the classifieds. My error was not being able to discern the posting pattern and not performing enough due diligence. I was able to stop the payment fortunately. As you can see camper x has disappeared. I would like to thank you all for the responses and information. Hopefully the next time a gun that I desire comes up it will not be a crap show like this. Hopefully this can be a lesson to others.

Glad you were saved from losing your money. Remember a video call can be your best friend on purchases for more than you're willing to lose!

Glad you were able to stop the payment. Did you share the usernames of the scammers that PM’d you with Brickburn or AfricaHunting so they could be banned too?

I was following this classified as I was also interested in this rifle.
Glad this scammer was found and eradicated from this site and @JJoseph didn't lose his money.

I've noticed over the last year or two the "date on a paper" thing was discovered by scammers to be a slam dunk to fool folks. It worked well at one time, but Ai and photo editing programs have ended that good idea.

“Thanks for accepting me” seems to be a go to intro post title for these scammers. When you think of it, it’s kind of a funny thing to say just as a standalone first post. Not totally outrageous, but just a little off from what a normal non-scammer getting started on here would say.

Real posters should title as either "Part of the crew, part of the ship", "One. Of. Us", or my favorite "The first step towards healing id admitting you have the addiction"

I’ve said it before and will say it again, I only deal with people I can meet in person. I realize that many legitimate deals have been made between many upstanding gentlemen from this forum. I’m also aware of some upstanding members who’ve been unfortunately scammed by unscrupulous players. I seem to recollect there was an issue not so long ago between two well known and upstanding members regarding the sale of a high dollar rifle; this seemed to have been ultimately resolved but proved to be the source of considerable consternation for a brief time. All these problems are avoided by dealing with someone in person. I have surely missed out on many online deals, but I have found sweeter deals local to me. Regular guns like the one in question from this threads original post are simply not that special. Be patient and a deal will come around locally. If something really special or high dollar is available, I would rather buy a plane ticket or take a long drive and go meet in person rather than take a risk of being scammed online. Scams aside, I want to see the gun in person and physically inspect it before buying it. I have driven hundreds of miles for the right gun, and made an enjoyable day or weekend of the journey. I do of course realize that people have been robbed during in-person meets, which is why meeting at a police station or a bank is a good place to start. Concealed carry should go without saying. I hope the op reads this and feels deep shame and regret for his attempts to scam someone as he has chosen to sacrifice his integrity for a few measly dollars. It’s probably not the first time. Honor is a sacred thing, and it is not easily regained after it is lost.

Another recommendation I'd make is using an escrow service like Guntab.com I've used them for a few purchases on Guns International where the cost of the gun was enough that it would have hurt if I got screwed. Their fees are very nominal in my opinion. It prolongs the sale process a little, but buying a new gun has never been an urgent endeavor for me.

For Guntab, buyer sends Guntab funds-all forms accepted. Once guntab receives funds, they tell seller to ship to FFL. Buyer then has a 3 day inspection period to make sure everything checks out before funds are released to seller.

I believe the total fee is approximately the same as a typical credit card fee.

I've had a few sellers that refused to sell via Guntab, which my assumption was that the sale wouldn't have gone well...

I have been thinking about this a lot. It would be extremely helpful if at the top right corner of the ads, if there could be a big red notification that said SCAM, after it has been discovered that there is a scam and someone has been banned. This would allow people to see the types of ads that have been proven to scam. At the same time, it would allow other to skip to stuff they want to buy. On the same token a big green SOLD on the right corner would allow people to skip to available stuff…and make it more likely for people to have time to find what they are looking for instead of scrolling three pages only to find out it was sold. It’s still out there if people need to research how much something sold for. Who would we give the idea to? Jerome?

It is getting out of hand, everyone knows I have sold alot on here, and I constantly get direct msgs from "new members" asking if a item I marked sold 3yrs ago is available... Scammers need to get ass cancer.

My 2 cents, one someone says they'll take it, I ask for a phone number to talk on the phone.. No phone call no deal.. Knock on wood, I think I've been on here 7yrs and never been scammed.

I would rather a brighter banner color than green for "sold". Maybe blue, yellow, pink, etc.

As for the "Red" banner for Scam. The scammer's are relatively easy to spot and the moderators are doing a great job of deleting and banning the "new member" scammer. However, all the scammer does is change their bogus sign up info to continue to post scams.

One scammer went as far as to post a new post targeting me and that "they" were following my posts. It was obvious "they" were trying to give credibility to their scam.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.
