Is this a New Haven gun or from the short lived South Carolina factory?

Ok, very tempting, what is available in brass buckets and dies and how much?

@Catahoula, any target pics? Would like to see its fairly accurate out of the box.

I’ll have to get a count tomorrow. I’m guessing around 600 bullets, mostly Sierra 180 grain, and probably 200 pcs of brass, a mix of new and once fired, some nickel plated. Haven’t really thought about pricing. I’ll do a little research.

Unfortunately no. I had it at the range one time to sight it in and it’s been in the safe since. I didn’t do any load development or serious work on groups.

Do you mind if I ask how you can tell?
Certainly. Because after the New Haven plant closed they made them in one place and one place only before production was moved overseas and that was South Carolina.

Damn……..

I’m giving 10 minutes for this rifle to sell or it’s mine.

Looks like 550 plus Sierras and an old box of Herters. 200 pieces of new Remington brass and roughly 75 nickel Federal brass.

If it were a New Haven gun it would not be stamped "BACO." Further, the serial number of New Haven guns of this era would begin with a "G." Basically, this is one of the last made in America Model 70's and, although not made by Olin in Connecticut, it is essentially the same gun with the biggest difference being the new MOA trigger.

I currently have three Model 70's--one is a 1950's made 30-06, one is a new Super Grade Maple 300 Win Mag--assembled in Portugual, and the third has the Morgan Utah stamp, is a 270 win, and also a Super Grade. I sold a fourth Model 70 Safari Express 375 H&H last year (needed cash to pay for a Rigby). I will state that the workmanship, fit, and finish of all of the new Model 70's I have or had is as good or better than the pre-1964. The silky smooth bolt action is maybe a little better on the old rifle, but the new ones are pretty darn smooth. And I agree the new MOA trigger is better.
If you are looking for a Model 70, the one being sold by Catahoula in the post above is a bargain. If you could find one in a store it would be at least $1500 for a Super Grade. Don't be put off because it's not manufactured in the old Connecticut factory.
