Well,

After 8 years I finally received my rifle back from Classic Rifle…I can’t do anything with it, so I’ll offer it up as a gunsmith special.

Rifle is an early production South Carolina FN (BACO) Safari Express action chambered in .416 Rem (same one that took the Eland in my profile pic). No stock, no bottom metal, no action screws. Extractor has been removed from bolt, but included. Rifle barrel has been turned, as if he started to unscrew it from action.

Bolt has surface rust from sitting for so long, there may be some other spots on action and barrel.

Just seeing if there’s interest, can take any pics you need, just ask. At minimum, you’ll have a magnum length action and .416 barrel! A couple hundred bucks or trade for ?

Alas, too late. :(

All, let me post some pics…didn’t realize there would be this much interest. Pics will be up shortly.

Here’s some pics…please pm me with what you think the value is if interested. I will try working deals out based on previous post times, I believe Mark was first.

Looks like the rust is concentrated on the bolt head. There are also small nicks on the barrel.

Hell of a deal! Good on you for being the early bird!
FYI, the actual agreed upon price was more than a "couple hundred buck" but it was still very fair.

I just happen to have an empty Bell and Carlson stock waiting for "just such an emergency", to paraphrase Foghorn Leghorn...

@frog stealer , I guess I missed the original story, but why did someone else have your rifle for eight years.

I sent the barreled action to Classic Barrel and Gunworks to have it rechambered back in 2015. After a year past, I started reaching out to inquire about progress. Never got a response, and eventually gave up after several attempts to communicate. I considered the rifle a loss, knowing court fees to get it back would likely exceed the value of the rifle.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I got a call out of the blue from the owners wife stating he was too sick to continue working, and asked for my address for return shipping! If you search for classic barrel on this forum, you’ll see that I’m not the only one!

That's rough on both ends. Glad you at least got the peace of mind of having it returned with some sort of explanation.

Wow what bad luck on your end and most probably on his end also. At least glad to hear you finally got it back.

Thanks, I’m glad as well. Hopefully Mark will turn it into something great and have lots of good memories with it.

Was that Classic barrel and action of Prescott?

It took me 2 years and a lawsuit to get my 602 back…. Or at least a box of parts that I sent off to Dennis Olson

Happy it worked out for the both of you. Have an old M70 stock in the attic that I was getting excited about using when I read the title.
