Why Is Winchester Safari Ammo always double the price of other brands...Do they have a particular good reputation our is it a novelty?
Just Wondering

I was not aware that Winchester was offering factory loaded ammunition in any calibre larger than .45/70 Government , anymore .

Ten years ago , they were loading their Safari line of factory loaded ammunition with Nosler Partition soft nosed bullets and Nosler monolithic solid bullets . They were offering factory loaded ammunition for the :
- .375 Holland & Holland Magnum
- .416 Remington Magnum
- .458 Winchester Magnum

I used to purchase the Winchester Safari soft nosed factory ammunition ( which was loaded with 500 grain Nosler Partition soft nosed bullets ) for my .458 Winchester Magnum , and I found them to be quite excellent . The advertised velocity used to be 2010 feet per second . And they always worked magnificently . I have absolutely no experience with their solid factory loads ( which employed the Nosler monolithic solids ) .

I have not seen Winchester advertise any of their Safari line of ammunition in their catalogs , for at least a decade .

If the Professor is correct that it hasnt been advertised in a long time, its probably new old stock you're seeing and they've jacked the prices up due to it being discontinued and are probably hoping some poor fella who ha a gun zeroed or regulated for it needs a box bad enough to pay the higher price.

I cant personally speak to the prices because I wont shoot modern (last decade or maybe even two) Winchester products for any amount of money. Too many personal experiences I finally swore them off, and have continued to see major and frequent issues from them. Quality control is non existent and at least some of their hunting bullets have major design flaws and they refuse to do anything about it because it's cheaper to ignore it, all topped off with customer service so poor that it borders on shady. They were definitely shady when I contacted them about a recovered bullet that failed, long story short they didnt want the remaining unfired cartridges to test in gel but they wanted me to send the recovered portion back and not return it to me. They could give me a full bag safari and I'd turn it down if I had to use their products. Same deal with advertising for them and being able to actually use quality bullets/ammo and I'd be in a real moral dilemma

Probably the same reason 223 went from $200 per thousand to over $600 per thousand rounds. Just about all ammo has gotten expensive. Same for reloading components.

Brownell's list Winchester Safari ammo. Nosler Partitions and solids, available in just a few calibers.

Comparing prices for the 416 Rem, 400 gr Nosler solid, the Winchester Safari is $205 and Hendershots will load the same bullet for the bargain price of $170.

Just plain greed and taking advantage of the current world wide situation. It will continue until people stop paying.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
