Some species may be allowed to be hunted in a particular African country however some may not be brought back to the US. My question is what trophies can't I bring back to the US? I'm pretty sure I know some (rhino, cheetah?, etc.) but I might be wrong. I just don't want to set my heart on a particular game only to have the rug pulled out from under me.
Thanks!

Hi Chase,
The common for all of Africa is the Cheetah, and the brown Hyena.
If you tell me where in Africa you will be hunting and what animals you want to hunt. I can tell you go or no......

If I can tack onto this.... What about Mountain Zebra, from RSA and/or Namibia? Or any where else they may occur?

And are we still only able to import elephant trophies from RSA and Namibia?

From which countries are we allowed to import Crocodile and Hippo? I would love to hunt Croc in Mozambique but as I understand it, we cannot import hippo from there and it just seems natural (and most efficient?) to hunt both together.

Well, I ask because I have no real set plans as of yet. I would like to stick to mainly SA or Namibia for my first safari. Specifically, I wanted to know about white rhino in SA, or anywhere else for that matter. I heard, I guess incorrectly, that no rhino trophies could be imported to the US. Also, a lot of pressure has been put on the US lately to ban the import of lion trophies, so I want to get in while I can (in SA as well). The other animal I was curious about now was hippo (and possibly croc) from Zambia.
I don't necessarily want to go after any of these on my first go, but I want to be informed.
Thanks!

Whether you can import many species will depend on CITES agreements and then the whim of USFWS and which loony thought is passing through the minds of those in charge.

White Rhino in RSA are managed differently than White Rhino from Zambia, etc.

Hippo from Mozambique or Hippo from RSA, Zimbabwe, etc. all different importation rules.

Those species noted above Cheetah are banned from import into the US. While others can import them.

Nothing is stopping you form legally hunting the species. You just can't bring it home. Remember that.

Have fun planning.

The Black-Faced Impala is also not allowed to be imported into the US but they can be legally hunted.

So from what I understand, its just like all other government policies. Clear, easy to understand, and always 100% logical and fair. :D
