I did not click on a choice above. While I think a Leupold VX5HD with CDS and a Firedot reticle is fantastic, I think you’d be much better served with a 2-10 than a 3-15. I have VX5HD scopes on all four rifles that I hunt with. My .338 & .375 both have the 2-10 and it’s ideal for those, as it would be for a 30-06. I’ve got a 3-15, but it’s on my .264 and I do shoot it much farther than the other guns. Inside 400 yards the 10x top end is plenty.

I used to (embarrassed) be a swaro snob until my last two. I found out although professionally mounted ran out of horizontal centering meaning I ran out of clicks. On a scope forum I found out that was fairly common. I sold all my Swaro and converted to all Leupold and never looked back. I love the fire dot reticle

I also didn’t click a selection as neither of those would be on my short list. 300 yards doesn’t require a great deal of “scope.” My suggestion would be to find a resurrected classic from Vintage Scopes or a similar company. Short of that, any leupold 3-9 would be plenty. Once you cross the 400 yard threshold I would start looking at “more scope.”
I still love Swarovski and your selection would be fine-

Just me, but a scope description like “VX-5HD 3-15x44 CDS-ZL2 Side Focus HTMR” implies a level of gadgetry that I’m just not interested in. For plains game within 300 yards, which for me is 100% of plains game, give me a 2-7 or 3-9 variable. Hold the “CDS-ZL2 Side Focus HTMR” thanks very much.

Very much appreciate your insight

Nightforce NX8 2.5 x 20 x 50. Just put one on my 300wm and the optics are incredible. They are a little heavy but I was looking for that to tame recoil. I just purchased a pre-64 30-06 for the wife and will put the same scope on it.

A Leupold 2x7 is just perfect.
You’re right there, IMO. I have a Pre-64 Featherweight 30-06 that is topped with a Leupold VX3 in 2.5-8x. I haven’t changed it out since it’s a great scope for that rifle, as well as being a bit lighter and more compact than the VX5’s. The only thing I wish it had that’s lacking is the Firedot reticle.

Agreed with many of my friends above.
A classic rifle in a classic cartridge needs a classic scope profile.

1” tube; no more to an 40mm objective; sleek, covered adjustment turrets; no batteries.

2-7x32
2.5-8x36
3-9x40 at the most

Leupold, Weaver, Redfield, Zeiss, Swarovski, and others made or make scopes that fit these criteria at all budget levels.

Vintage Gun Scopes and their restored or reglassed scopes would be ideal.

Wow! Sounds like something was wrong with the bases or screw alignment. That would be something like 24” off at 100.

Out of the two the Swarovski because I personally don’t think you need anything close to 15 power on a 30-06 jmo
If it were me I’d do what I did and buy a Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX3i for it. But if you are set on wanting a more powerful scope and/or one in a 30mm tube then I’d look at the Leupold VX3i in 3.5-10x40 1” or the Leupold VX5HD in 2-10x42. Also Swarovski has a 3-10x42 Z3 that would be really nice!
Here are some for sale -

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
