Which chambering for hunting plains Game?

If youre looking for an excuse to buy something new, then 375H&H is the way to go. There used to be a guy with the signature line One world One rifel--375H&H. Honestly though, I think your 9.3 is fine. My personal favorite is 9.3x74R

Well because I'm me and have to be different I'd go with an 8x68S for PG. 7x57 would work as well as your 7x64. As stated by several individuals in this thread...it depends on what you feel comfortable shooting and can shoot accurately.

30-06 Remington 700 ADL sitting in a 1st Gen Ti stock
Topped off with a Leupold V3 in dual dove tails

Just about perfect for PG under 350 yards

Good to know!
@Scrumbag
I took the American 9.3, the 35 Whelen and everything I shot fell down 1 shot. Either your 7x64 or 9.3 would be absolutely ideal for ALL the game you mentioned.
It wouldn't take much to get a scope mounted to your 9.3 unless it a classic you don't want to spoil
Take either if you hunt Namibia like we did you will have an absolute hoot.

i am a great proponent of the 280 rem, which means the 7x64 as well.
however if after eland sized game, experience has taught me that a bigger gun would be better.
in 7mm, the min case capacity i would use would be the 7mmstw, and then only with heavy barnesx, and not too far away..

Agree with Bob....9.3 all day long....basically "plenty of gun" approach and you can go with 230-286 grain rounds depending on what you are going after....shoots flat enough out to 200-250 yards, which is plenty far from what everyone is saying about the majority of Africa hunts. Leaving in April for my PG hunt, 9.3 is going with me :)

@Fastrig
Like the Whelen the 9.3 will get the job done with no fuss and won't belt you out from under your hat like the magnums would. Load the 250grain accubonds or the standard old 286 grainers and go have fun without worries.
Bob.

replace the partition with a decent bullet and you are cooking.

@bruce moulds
I beg to differ . I find 500 grain Nosler Partition soft nosed bullets to be quite excellent in my .458 WM ( Winchester Magnum ) . If you do not like Nosler
Partition bullets and would prefer something else ( like a Swift A Frame ) , then that is fine .

Showing up with a 375H&H with 300 grain SAF's will make your PH very happy.
Actually being able to shoot it accurately...priceless.

Throw in about 10 solids in case a candidate for the Tiny 10 show up and you are done.
One caliber to hunt the world.

I have have taken everything from porcupines to a bull eland with the 300 Win Mag using 180 gr Winchester Ballistic Silvertips Which the rifle loves. Anyway I can’t argue with the 375 H&H either.

I did not see Eland but took decent Kudu with 7mmRM.
I saw some good size Kudu mounts taken with a .25-06, taken by a girl! So if a .25 can do that then it shows shot placement trumps. She probably has more patience and hunts closer.
I like the 7mm bore, ive read the merits of 7x57 and 7x64. I wouldlike the latter or a .280
.300wm and above makes sense for plains game. My PH said its a good choice for african pg

In three trips with only a 375 H&H I have taken from Cape buffalo down to duiker. A quality bullet or solids for the little antelope has worked well. I don’t plan to take anything else unless maybe a drilling for night critters, but even then I’ll have my 375 H&H.
It’s just a wonderful round for most anything that shows up. JMO&E
Best of luck in your decision!

I never saw a Duiker stand still. I guess you have to shoot them with whatever is in hand.
Interestingly i have read heaps on people using .375H&H all round including on the little fellas.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
