If you have the time and don't mind traveling a short distance from the airport, go to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront area. Lots to do and plenty of restaurants and bars. Fairly safe, tourist area. There is a City Lodge Victoria & Alfred that is reasonably priced (https://clhg.com/hotels/180/City-Lodge-Hotel-Victoria-&-Alfred-Waterfront ). We spent several days in Cape Town for a wedding anniversary trip and stayed at the Queen Victoria (https://newmarkhotels.com/accommodation/queen-victoria-hotel )

If you have the time, riding the Gondola up Table Mountain is a nice day trip. Buy your tickets online, ahead of time and you'll save a lot of time. Once at the base of the mountain, there is a long line to buy tickets and then you go get in another long line to actually get on the gondola.
