Whats your take on Heym rifles, SR21 & 89B?

That's a pretty general question.
And two very different types of rifles.
The SR21 is an out of production bolt rifle.
The 89B is the latest and greatest DR from Heym.
Can you be more specific?

The 89B sure looks like a sweet double.

I won't say I haven't looked at them myself.
But personally I would prefer the Krieghoff Big Five or Blaser S2.
Not that I have the money for any of these...

I ment as a bolt action, how does it rate copare to the likes of Sako, Ruger,Steyer and all the other well known brands. For the 89B just some inputs from the hunters using one now.

Dallas Safari Club had a monthly dinner meeting a few months ago and Chris Sells, the Heym dealer in Dallas, was the speaker and they had one of the bolt rifles and one of the doubles there for folks to look at. I handled both rifles there and have also looked at their doubles at the DSC convention in the Heym booth. They are beautifully made rifles, both the bolt and the double. I wasn't looking for a bolt rifle, so didn't examine it closely, but I really liked the double, though I can't remember which model it was. I also looked at the Verney-Carron which I liked even better. Just the feel of their round action double in 450-400. Great balance and beautifully finished. I'll add that the best value in a double is Chapuis. Fit and finish is as good as the other two and price is several thousand less. I have one and love it.

You are welcome! I probably sound like a Chapuis salesman, but I really did a lot of online research and looked at everything from a Holland & Holland double at $100,000 to Heym, VC, Kreigoff, Sabatti and Chapuis. I think what did it for me was the vote of confidence on the website of Champlin Arms in Oklahoma. They list a couple of Chapuis doubles most of the time and they always say in their description that they have handled and worked on every double made and they say a Chapuis is as good as any of the others for a lot less money. I found mine online at William Larkin Moore in Phoenix. It was pre-owned and a bargain. Look at Champlinarms.com and their inventory of new and used doubles. George Caslin (sp?) and J.J. Perrodeaux at Champlin are both highly respected in the fine gun trade.

Hi Team Beretta,

I thought to pass on some feedback on the Heym SR21, my husband uses one in 8X68S, His is the precision version. He has been very pleased with it. It has been taken apart twice on two trips to South Africa, goes back to zero straight away on re-assembly and gets on with the job in hand.
He would recommend over the Steyr, I know he Looked at a high end SAKO, but he preferred the SR21.

The SR21 is not an obvious choice but it makes a very good reliable choice.

There are YouTube videos with Heym doubles in use by various PH's, perhaps they are given them, but would they stake their reputations and lives and those of their customers on something that would not be reliable???

A couple of years I hunted with Heym SR 20 rifles, 9.3x62 and .375 H & H. Excellent rifles, I guess similar to the SR 21.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
