At New Zealand Safaris, we pride ourselves in being New Zealand's premiere free range hunting Outfitter on big game, and Adventures in New Zealand. Experience Professionally guided Safaris on our large private High Country Stations, home to game animals that have populated the river valleys and Mountain tops since their introduction in the mid 1800's. We love sharing the real hunting experience with our clients, from hunting to scenery. It's all part of the journey.

Welcome to AH...

Maybe you could share some pictures of your operation.

Welcome to AH.

No problem James here's our main lodge, with the other photos of our hunting cabins in our members photos.
Thanks

Welcome, definitely tahr and chamois.

Welcome to AH. I chose Red Stag, close call over Tahr

I am going to New Zealand next March to hunt Red Stag and Wapiti. I might as well take an elk while I am already there.

I hunted the big three ,But the Tahr was the most and best of them all. John

One day one of those big New Zealand Red stags will be mine! Even as a die hard sheep hunter I am most exited by the stags there. Of course a Tahr and Chamois must die too, but after the stag. lol

I have been fortunate enough to experience quite a bit of N.Z hunting, on both Islands.

Two hunts which come to mind as being my favorites would be;
# Sika in the peak rut (with some cold weather to keep them going)
# Tahr on the West Coast (possibly the Douglas Valley, challenging enough at my age) in May before it gets too cold.

Either way, there is an excellent variation of World class adventure and hunting options available in one of the most visually inspiring of destinations populated by a hunting friendly population. (y)

Tahr and more Tahr imo. Foot walking from the river bottoms to the highest tops will give the keen hunter something to really remember considering the terrain one encounters from bottom to top.
Plenty of people have hunted Tahr by being dropped off by chopper on the tops.
Now as I have a worn body at 62 yrs it will be my option next time I reckon but I will never forget my walk up Tahr hunts with many of those wtf am I doing this for moments!
The memories of 9 hour climbs straight up through the rough shit to shoot bulls are hard to toss.

Quick question.for those that know what is the average size for the free range stags. What is the best time of year for fallow, and stag thanks

Free range Stags we talk in points more than score. So average size is 10-14 points. Probably the best time for the two species is around April when
You will catch both animals in the rut.

I've got Tahr on my wishlist. Looks like loads of fun to hike the mountains, then hike some more. Of course, when you think you're done hiking, you get to go all the way back, hopefully with a lot of extra weight.

Saw a good looking knife you posted a pic of with the watermelon. Can I ask the make? Looks like you hunted with Guav Johnson? We overlapped in the Save once. Would like to hunt with him one day..
