On the Stock, behind the pistol grip .. Thank You.
The chin strap was a trade mark of Tom Shelhamer, a famous stockmaker who started his career with the Niedner company and then went out on his own.And maybe the more pertinent question is, “what is it good for?” Does it have any utility apart from looking good, or it is just supposed to look good like the shadow line for a cheek piece?
Tuxedos have chin straps? I only ask cause I've never worn a tuxedo. They do those on custom guns virtually all the time in Ferlach. They say, like a tuxedo, it is not complete without it.
I'm just quoting what one of the gunmakers said--probably something lost in translation, though. I think they are strictly for looks.Tuxedos have chin straps? I only ask cause I've never worn a tuxedo.
No but chinstraps wear tuxedos.Tuxedos have chin straps? I only ask cause I've never worn a tuxedo.

Arguments can be made that a beautifully figured wood stock on a rifle doesn't make it perform any better either. And maybe the more pertinent question is, “what is it good for?” Does it have any utility apart from looking good, or it is just supposed to look good like the shadow line for a cheek piece?
