What have you seen as a "typical" dip & pack fee in South Africa?

My first Africa hunt was 2023 in Botswana. Mochaba charged $75 per piece for D&P. I'm going to the East Cape in September and the PH has a preferred taxidermist. Their D&P charge is $175 per piece. I know prices can change in 2 years and countries can vary, but still...

What have you folks paid lately and which EC taxidermist?

The past two years we averaged $150 per animal. Anything from Blesbok to Buffalo.

I usually use $150 per animal to budget. South Africa and Namibia have higher dip and pack costs than other countries I’ve hunted. The rest are typically flat fee. I think they’ve pushed it to what market will tolerate. Outfitters also receive a commission.

I suggest give Kevin and Nicole a try at Hunters and Collectors in Port Elizabeth. Been a few years but they gave me the best offer by far, much much less than my outfitter recommended one. They did my 22 animals from a 2021 safari. I highly recommend them for quality of work, as important following instructions (no blackened horns, no holes drilled in tops, skulls cut as I asked), communication, price and timelines.

Lastly I had my shipment placed/packed in a Mpact plastic shipping crate with lid, costs far less than wood, meets all international rules and easier.
