So, I broke my phone during my 2014 safari and I just threw it in my checked luggage for the return flight because what could I do to it ... it was already broken. When I got home I couldn't find it, so naturally I blamed TSA, Homeland Security, and US Customs. The only thing that I was really sorry about losing were a few old hunting photos and a couple of me helping load a Cape Buffalo taken by another hunter in camp. I was telling my daughter how much I wished that I had the photos of the Cape Buffalo last week and two days later my wife found the phone in a pocket of my shaving kit with a TSA tag. Apparently, they found the phone and put it in a pocket that I didn't use. What are the odds?
So, today I took the phone to a company in the neighboring town because the town where I live in rural East Texas is so small that we have to drive 30 miles to get work on a cell phone. To kill a little time, my daughter and I went to the local sporting goods store, Academy Sports and Outdoors, (closest place where I can buy MOST of my hunting/outdoor supplies) where I bought a new pair of shoes that I wanted to break in BEFORE the SCI meeting in Vegas next month. I get a phone call that they were successful and got my pictures off the phone so we headed almost sprinted to the check-out so I could see my pictures and and I look over and see James Quin, General Manager and PH with Stormberg Elangeni Safaris in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. What are the odds?
I have lived in my current town for 3 years. Academy is my go to for hunting, fishing, camping, golfing ... hell, I buy my moisture-wicking compression underwear there so I have been there at least 50 times in 3 years. I have NEVER seen anyone that I know there. I am certain that it I wanted to have an affair, I could meet my mistress in Academy ... have sex in the parking lot in broad daylight ... and never get caught because I will never see anyone that I know. And who the hell do I see? A PH that I met Dallas SCI two years go that a buddy and I were considering hunting with in the next couple of years. I know about 10 people by sight and name who live in South Africa and I run into one of them while I was waiting to get two-year old photos from a safari and new shoes for the SCI convention in a local sporting good store in Lufkin, TX. What are the odds?
PS I did buy a lottery ticket ... and if I win, I am committing to spend the summer with James and Stormberg Elangeni Safaris!!! What are the odds?
