We Grow them Big in Texas

Found this one about 6 inches away from my right foot earlier this year. Thank God, it was still a little cool and early in the morning in the shade.

Shot it eight times. Decided to leave a few bullets in the gun in case it had a brother.

I keep on being amazed by the liberty you have on your own property in the US. In Europe, discharging a firearm in your own garden, would get you swat helicopters in no time.

@VertigoBE
Same reaction in Australia mate.

Thank you both for the reminder about how precious (and precarious) our freedoms are and how hard they are go get back after letting them slip away.

For US Americans, the reminder is that government officials that want to take away the 2nd Amendment are the singular justification for why the 2nd Amendment was written in the first place.

Since the weekend of the fourth, we have been putting in long days cleaning up from the flood. This big fellow came boiling out of a debris pile yesterday evening. Out hunting I leave them alone, but here on the place with dogs and in this case Mrs. Red Leg standing twenty feet away, we put diamondbacks down when we see them. While Nancy beat a somewhat hasty and expletive laden retreat, I managed to pin him with the grapple on the tractor and then applied two rat shot loads to the business end. :oops: :W Shooting:

You make me appreciate that deep cold snow here every time I see one of these.

NO RATTLERS HERE IN COSTA RICA BUT OUR CORAL SNAKES ARE WAY BIGGER THAN I EVER SAW IN FLORIDA.

I'll take any Coral Snake regardless of size and any Rattle Snake, vs. the Fer de Lance snakes (Barba Amarilla) you guys have in the Costa Rica.

I was less than 18" away from stepping on this one, luckily, I always walk looking down. :ROFLMAO: I'm 5'5" tall, and I'm guessing this snake was probably around that long.

Keep these rights precious and protect them at all costs.

Some of y’all have brought up an interesting point. By bringing up some of the snakes didn’t rattle. My old zoology teacher had a theory that most timber rattlesnakes are losing the inclination to rattle as a means of survival. All of the ones that rattle end up as belts and boots.
I’m starting to believe it, I’ve seen a lot of timber rattlers a fair number of eastern diamondbacks and fewer western diamondbacks. Most of the timber’s didn’t rattle until messed with. Most of the eastern rattled and all of the westerns rattled.

The one I caught did not rattle, and I believe we disturbed her siesta after a good meal. The snake was very lethargic and wasn’t moving or being aggressive at all. Obviously, that all changed after I grabbed it. :ROFLMAO:

@PARA45
Females usually do get aggressive when you grab them especially at the wrong time.
Oh that's right your talking snakes not women.
Ah well both can be aggressive and venomous and some definitely speak with forked tongue especially after divorce.

It takes less shots to kill a buffalo...and yet, I understand. :A Shades:

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
