I joined to gather more information on scheduling a plains game hunt for my father and myself in 2018 and found this site when searching for information about an outfitter I was about to book a hunt with, Northwoods Adventures. After finding a thread with some negative reviews I joined and am looking for a replacement. My Hunt was going to be for Cape Kudu, Oryx, Black Or Blue Wildebeast, Cape Bushbuck, Blesbuck, Impala, Warthog, Cape Springbuck, Black Springbuck, Common Duiker, plus 2 call animals over 10 days in South Africa
This hunt was going to come in at $5900/pp all inclusive with taxes. I am going to be looking for a new outfitter to book a similar hunt through. It doesn’t have to be exact but along the same lines. I am a serious buyer and looking to get something on the books in the next month, and the trip preferably the end of May 2018.

I be happy to build a package for you to hunt with Paw print Safaris. We are not in the cape though and some animals may vary depending on what you would like. We have greater kudu not the smaller and cheaper cape kudu but I know I can make you two a nice package that will be fun to hunt.

If you like I cam Pm you more details on my ideas.

I am open to ideas and quotes over message from anyone interested in building me a package. We are fine making the trip slightly shorter (no less than 7 days) and the smaller animals are not a must. This is going to be the first guided hunt we have ever done, we are normally DIY hunters, and it has taken us both a long time to save up for this trip together, so price is definitely a significant factor. We are both in very good shape and routinely cover over 10 miles a day in unfavorable terrain when hunting in the US.

So far thank you for all of the responsiveness. After talking to my father and working on our animal list, we have come down to a "essential" trophy list.
-Greater Kudu
-Gemsbok
-Blue Wildebeast
-Impala
-Warthog
-Blesbuck -or- Heartbeast
(I may want to take a blue wildebeest if time allows as well, but that will be decided later)
We would like to keep the hunt between 7-10 days and would enjoy a more physically challenging hunt. Our hunt will be with both of us harvesting each of these animals, not a shared hunt list. We want to hunt together as well. On our accommodations we are looking for all inclusive including food and alcoholic beverages.
My father will be in the market to European mount all of his trophies prior to sending them back if there is a quality and reasonable local taxidermist nearby. I will be hopefully preparing my animals for full shoulder mounts back here at the taxidermist I use.
We both plan on bringing our personal rifles down for the hunt.
Once again thank you for the help and responses in advance, I am not wasting time here, we are serious about our trip (we already have taken the time off work at the end of May 2018) and im thankful for this site opening my eyes to potential problems with the outfitter I had planned on using.

Hi Hoguer, welcome and you seem to know what you want. You may need to have a bit more of a think about how and what you want to hunt. If you want a physically challenging hunt then it probably should be done in the more vegetated mountain areas on foot. There is no better plains game hunting than to hunt Kudu in the hills. You may want to review your list as some species prefer more open landscapes which are best hunted by driving and then stalking. I am sure that most of the operators on this site would be able to taylor make a hunt for you. Don't dismiss the Eastern cape and Cape Kudu because they are the most beautiful animals and can be a challenge to hunt. Good luck with your plan. Wish it was me!

Here's my two cents for what it's worth, I agree with @Neale. Don't write off the Eastern cape yet. You can hunt mountains to plains. I took (my Avatar) an excellent Cape Kudu in the mountains of the Eastern Cape. The hunting there can be very challenging. There are many outfitters here from the Eastern Cape. That being said I have hunted Limpopo and the Eastern Cape and they are both special. No matter what you decide have fun in planning
and welcome to the African Addiction.

I would be open to a true trophy cape Kudu, the allure of a 55”+ greater trophy on the wall is extremely hard to break from. The Kudu is on my bucket list and this will likely be the only Safari I can afford in the near future so I have placed a exceptional trophy high on my list.
I am aware there are a ton of options and I appreciate all of the outfitters who have taken the time to message me. It appears my 10 day 12 animal hunt was a unusually good deal, but I would prefer to reduce my harvest to ensure we have a vetted outfitter and enjoy this time spent with my Father. We are not wealthy men and don’t require 5 Star everything (we know we can’t afford it) but are looking for a unique experience on this trip. High fence and hand delivered animals are not what we are there for. We expect to have to work for our game and employ an outfitter that can help us with those goals and provide a enjoyable all round experience. I will be posting in some other threads/topics as well to make sure we cross all of our Ts and dot our Is on our rifle transportation, trophy teansportation and import and anything that I simply am not expecting. Thank you all again

After another chat with my father this morning, we are going to try to focus on a hunt with Greater Kudu. We both agreed that the top trophy that we most desire on our list is a exceptional greater Kudu (I dream of 60”) and compromising on that at this point would be a compromise we don’t want to make. We both prefer the markings as well. If that proves to be unreasonable/unaffordable we will go from there.

Good luck with your safari

Hi @hoguer, may I suggest you contact Tyrone Milne from Chumlet safaris. He offers some free range kudu hunting in KwaZulu Natal. This would be a challenging hunt and beautiful landscapes. I saw some great trophy free range Kudu there while I was hunting Nyala. I spent 7 days hunting with Tyrone but did not get my Nyala but enjoyed the hunt immensely.

Good afternoon, just my 2 cents. Just got back from my second plains game Safari at Kowas and would suggest you take a look at them. No hidden costs, great accommodations, plentiful game, and great people to share time with. Don't get to hung up on the size of the animal but rather enjoy the experience. That being said, all but one of my trophies were gold medal, the other silver. I would be more than happy to discuss my experience if you are interested. Good luck with your search.

It appears my Father and I will be heading to Namibia in 2018 pending our flight prices! Thank you everyone for the information and all of the great offers!

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
