Hey members, coming over to Namibia for the National Hunting Rifle Shooting competition in June later this year. I thought I would take advantage of the occasion and sneak in a plains game hunt prior to the event.

I got an email forwarded to me about a couple of short hunts with Red Dune Hunting Safaris and i was wondering if there was any more information on this outfitter, I unfortunately haven't had a reply for them in a couple of days, but it is hunting season, so no doubt they're out in the sticks.

My other option is to see if Heja Lodge can help me out, they supplied a trophy price list with my accommodation in a previous email, i was wondering if anyone has hunted with them and what the area is like?

Cheers
Bruce

I read an excellent report on Westfalen Safaris and see they also have a good special on offer in the deals section. Have you considered hunting with them? It may be a bit out of your way but looks like an excellent area to hunt.

Cheers Karoo, I'll have a look. I'm leaning towards running with Red Dunes as they're also the comp organisers so be good to meet them prior and have a hunt. also had a recommendation for Aru's... looks flash ha ha.

I have been to Aru quite a few times the hunting is great they have 2 farms 144k hectare and its proper walk and stalk ,not flash but comfy , great ph,s in fact I am back there in 3 weeks

I've been to Ozondjahe, owned by Jerome's (the founder of AH) family. Wonderful place. But you should consult Jerome - he knows Namibia as well as anyone, and better than most!

I tried to look up Red Dune Hunting Safaris and can't find anything on them.
That is strange.

Do you have a web address for them.

it is being run by Lauren and Dirk Nesenberend, who are the main organisers for the shooting comp I will be travelling over for, I don't have a web address.

Best of luck, hope you can work in a hunt with a good outfitter

cheers mate... yep, I know if stay longer I'll spend more coin, then there's more coin for taxidermy & shipping, with a kid due in August the minister of finance isn't to keen on me spending the money I have in the past, so its just going to be a short plains game hunt this time.

I'll touch base with a few of those outfitters mentioned above as well. Thanks everyone.

I don't know what part of Namibia you'll be in, but you could try Roy at Otjandaue hunting safaris. He is located outside Omaruru in the Erongo province. I've checked his references and he seems a straight shooter. Family operation. Met him and his wife Janet at the Denver ISE. I'm booked with him for next year. Good luck!

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
