Ok I'm expanding my search to include a Holland & Holland 450 No 2. Anyone have or know of one for sale?

Do you want the maker, or the caliber, or both the maker/caliber?

Most I've seen were royal deluxe #2s sidelocks. You'll be in the $70,000-$100000 pricepoint for those. I've seen maybe one made by WC Scott and retailed by H&H in the Dominion or Climax line. Much more affordable. I've also seen a few Cogswell & Harrisons so configured by caliber.

So basically, the most expensive model was choice A, and choices B and C would be midrange and lowest cost respectively.

@rookhawk thanks for the enlightenment. Think I'd rather spend the price of a royal deluxe on another elephant hunt. Caliber is tops, my preference would be a Jeffery but I'm striking out so far. So choice B would be an ideal alternative but maybe like hens teeth?

Does George still have the Webley & Scott that is listed for sale?

@wildcatter82 Haven't asked. I did ask him twice about the Edwinson Green & Sons that is listed, but he isn't sure if the guy wants to sell it.

Your chances of finding an original Holland in .450 No 2 NE would be close to zero, I reckon. They developed the .500/450 NE as an in-house chambering and there are a few of those floating about. They may have made a .450 No 2 but certainly not in numbers. Rigby, for example, made but one (1) rifle in .450 No 2.

Given it is from George with JJ Perodeau who works with him this seems to be a great buy for you. FYI except for the stock this looks like my Westley Richards which also has 28 inch barrels. I would have liked 24-26 inch barrels but a Westley Richards and maybe this gun more than make up for this. My DR too is 11.3 pounds and I have found the extra barrel length not a problem to shoot but may be an incumerence in thick Jess

I knew I had seen a nice looking 450 No 2 recently. I know nothing about this rifle, other than it looks beautiful and carries a substantial price tag. But it is a British Double in the chambering you are looking for ;)

This is the one @wildcatter82 and I were talking about. Kinda my last ditch at this point. I'd really like the Edwinson Green & Sons if I can see how much of a cast it has, and of course if its really for sale.
Looking forward to seeing what you end up with and another good range report (y)

@Wishfulthinker580 Like with the 475 No 2 I've bought what I can. I've got 100 new shells, about 50/50 Bertrams and Jamisons and a die set. But haven't been able to locate any Woodleigh bullets or Kynoch ammo, so I might end up having to use a modern .458 bullet (shudder).

I've bookmarked the Jules Bury. Good news for me is I doubt any of these will sell very quickly. I'm sure at some point a Jeffery will come on the market.

thanks @IdaRam I spotted this at the companies website. More than I want to spend for sure. But thanks for posting.

I too would prefer a 24-26 inch. But.....I'm unlikely to use this in Zimbabwe (I think) since I've got the 475 No 2. 28" barrel ought to make it a great 100 yard gun though.

So the only one they made was used by Ian Nyschens? The one he shot so much that the barrels seperated and it was sent back to Rigby for repair....

Nobody's quite sure. According to the ledgers, the only Rigby in .450 No 2 NE was a sidelock and that's now in the US. Nyschens's Rigby ended up on the bottom of the Zambezi. I tried researching this a year or so ago and I couldn't solve the mystery. Ruark wrote about Harry Selby using a Rigby in .450 No 2 NE as well, but according to one of Harry's friends and apprentice PH's, Harry didn't own such a rifle.

Ian Nyschens says that the rifle he lost in the Zambezi river was a 450 No 2. I don't think he ever mentioned the make, please correct me if I'm wrong. The double he was "loaned" later, that he says he shot 1,000 rounds through, and which experienced barrel separation was sent back to Rigby for repair. But if Rigby only ever made one 450 No 2 then I'd speculate that the one he sent back was a 450, not a 450 No 2 as he never says it was a No 2 to the best of my knowledge. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong.

In Months of the Sun, Nyschens is quite clear about the fact that he bought a well-used, second-hand Rigby double in .450 No 2 NE along with 300 rounds of ammunition. He described it as well used with short barrels and of a "discontinued model".

His second rifle was (is) an Alex Henry in .450 NE. This is the rifle he was loaned by Boss Lilford. I have seen this rifle-it is in a private collection in South Africa. It is well used indeed! It was built on a .500NE-sized action with 28-inch barrels and is, as a result, very heavy.

If I understood Nyschens correctly, the Rigby's barrels separated and was sent back to Rigby for repairs prior to being lost in the Zambezi.

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
