I'd love to take my daughter on a cheap plains game safari next year (2017) as a graduation/last Father-Daughter adventure before she's out of the house gift. I will bring either my .308 or .300 win mag, she shoots a .7mm-08 well. I want a good Kudu bull, a black wildebeest, a warthog and ?depending on what the bush offers. She wants a zebra, possibly blue wildebeest and ?. I've been to South Africa once and loved it; but not too keen on driving around the same roads over and over all day again, so am thinking more free range type hunting in Namibia-but wide open to ideas. I've been looking hard at Orpa Safaris but haven't contacted them. I've been a single father/ construction worker since my daughters were 7 yrs and 6 months respectively, so money is very much an issue. But now that I'm looking ahead at my baby leaving the nest, would love all suggestions and input any of you outstanding people could provide.

Thank you

Have a look at a couple of the Sponsors that operate in Namibia.
You have been around long enough to know to keep an eye on the deals forum.

I would read some of the hunt reports from Namibia. Ask plenty of questions. Many people have hunted Namibia on here.

As mentioned, look at reports from Namibia.

However, have you considered Mozambique or Zambia, we also have some PH's on here that would provide a nice venue. I am not sure about pricing, however you could check with the local members.

PACKERS WON!.

Sorry, shouldn't have tried to write a post during the game. I'll look into the sponsors from Namibia, May not be opposed to RSA either as long as the concession doesn't feel too small. If she does want a blue widebeest, I'm wondering if her .7mm-08 is a little small?

I wouldn't worry about the 7mm on a blue wildebeast. Just hit it right :)

Took my youngest daughter on a Namibian PG in June 2015 for her 21st birthday and had a great time. This was her first hunt and she is hooked. We're going to the eastern cape this year, right after her college graduation (LSU). My daughter practiced with a bolt action 223 and 270 prior to the hunt, shooting a lot of 100 and 200 yards shots at the range. We used a 300 WM on all the animals we harvested (black & blue Wild, Oryx, Red Hart & Mountain Zebra). All the shots were off of sticks, so the recoil wasn't that big of issue. All our shots were 100-150 yards.

This is the link to my hunt report, there is a pdf doc with the write up and photos.

If your budget is a concern, Zambia would be a better bet than Mozambique.. Moz givt have excessive taxes on top of all normal safaris costs!!

I have also been looking at a safari next yr. may try to take my 2 boys. Or a more expensive hunt for me. I have seen a recent offer from Tholocsafaris in Botswana that was offering the animals you mentioned and seemed reasonable. Lots of good outfitters on the site here. With a little research you should have a great safari. Bruce

Hi wipartimer, Have a look at our website, lots of information there regarding our free range hunting safaris in Namibia. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

hi there

take a look at my packages etc in the deals section
my area is 5400ha so big enough to not feel like you driving the same roads over and over
email me if you have any other questions

We are a small family orientated business, we hunt very large free range areas in North-West Namibia.
Please send us an email and we would gladly assist you.
We are close to Etosha National Park and also can take your daughter to view tame cheetahs or visit a primitive Himba Village.

I dropped my blue wildebeest where it stood with a 7mm, you should have no problem

Just bought my son a 7mm08 at Christmas because it's a great all around gun! With what you want it will be fine!

7mm-08 is a fine. I have one for my kids, we had it in Africa last year had no problems. Zebra, waterbuck and smaller it worked great. Here at home 3 moose, 3 bears, stone sheep, mountain goat and deer. The kids have done well with that gun.

Both of Craig Boddington's daughters soot 7-08, both very successfully!
I used a 7mm Mag and would not hesitate to use the 7-08 if I owned one!

I took my non-hunting daughter on a graduation safari and it was the best money I ever spent. Good luck! We are already looking for a hunting report.

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
