Does anyone have a 470 nitro or 450/400 they may want to sell or know anyone who does ? I may be in the market to buy another one in the near future. I would prefer a Heym but would consider other makes.

Looks like Champlin just got in a couple new Chapuis doubles in both 470 and 450/400 NE. Fine rifles for the money, prettier than most Heym's also. Spend a little extra and have it sweetened up and customized to you by JJ ;)

Saw those on Champlain website. What would you recommend as to sweetening and customizing? Particularly the 470.
Thank you for info.

Second the buying from George and customizing the gun through JJ. I think what he means is adjusting the Length of pull or drop, perhaps adding a recoil pad or mounts for a scope or red dot. Have a good conversation with George and you will figure out what you need on your double. Remember fit is everything.

@K-man you hit it pretty close:)

On the Chapuis 450/400 NE that @Just Gina recently acquired, we had stopped at JJ's to pick up a couple other rifles he worked on and she checked out a 450/400 3.25" NE he had. She liked it but really wanted a 3". JJ told her that if she bought a new Chapuis to bring it to him. The stock needed to be cut to fit her and she had a recoil reducer put in. He did an action job to loosen it up a bit as it was way to stiff for Gina to wrestle it. And a Chapuis resets or cocks the electors on close. The factory springs will pitch brass about 15 feet! So JJ eased that off so it closes easier and now Gina doesn't need to search for brass;)

He also installed his red dot QD mount. He will sell that complete with an RMR or by itself.

I'm guessing any or all the above could be done on a 470 as needed to fit you. You would end up with a factory gun somewhat fitted to you... I do think JJ can take the fitting as far as you wish. George may or may not negotiate a bit as he has that gun in stock (unless it sold in the last couple days). Besides it is worth buying a gun from George just to get the full experience;) Plan a full afternoon, be sure to call for an appointment. You can handle some very special guns. For example he had Gina try the fit with the gun that Robert Redford carried in Out of Africa.

Of course you can do this all remotely. I don't know where you live or travel, but again, it's worth the trip:)

Doubles are a personal thing, there are good ones out there and some real duds. Do your homework objectively and leave being star smitten out of it. Remember the four F's - Function, Fit, Finish, Fancy.
To me function is massively important compared to the rest, and Heym scores top marks, whether the 88 or 89, especially with the triple lockup and intercepting sears.
Fit only comes next - no good having a double that fits perfectly but doesn't function properly. You can get a double to fit, but if you have the time get fitted that is great. End result is pretty much the same but a bespoke is 'you'.
Finish is important too since the first two would need to be excellent to help excuse poor wood to metal finish. Finish can also impinge upon function; if the gun is a bit loose to start with it is not going to get any better. Again Heym is excellent at finish.
Fancy is just personal choice but should never be allowed to excuse any of the other F's, although it sometimes does, I know.
Enjoy the journey, there is no rush, a double should have a gestation period, it is a big deal!

Sale on 22 March.

Will second the comments about a trip to visit George Caswell and tour the gun vault of Champlin's in Enid, Oklahoma. I have kids and grandkids in the OK City area, so while visiting them a couple years ago, I took my son-in-law and grandson and paid a visit to Champlin. As @ActionBob mentioned, call ahead or email George to set up an appointment. Their building is located at the Enid Airport. It seems that Mr. Champlin was also an aviation enthusiast and owned quite a collection of vintage old aircraft. Champlin's grand dad was one of the original oil tycoons in Oklahoma, so I assume that's where the funding for planes and double guns came from. JJ Perodeau has relocated his shop and I believe it's up around Tulsa.

I have a Westley Richards 470 box lock built in 1914 (Have factory letter). Rifle was serviced and a new pad installed in 2020. PM if interested.

I got to fondle that rifle from Out of Africa today :A Banana:

Hi Gina, please don't forget to give us feedback as soon as you have tried your Iphisi! Longing to hear about this new model, Chapuis seems to be holding it close to the chest..

I have a pretty nice double, but it's a lot more than a Heym, email me if you want pics. I am not a firearms dealer, it's my personal rifle.

Will do, Kevin! It shouldn’t be much longer and I am super excited about it! :)

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
