If you have an extra shell holder, don't use yours anymore or know where I may locate one, I am in need of at least one. I am having a rifle built in 450 No. 2 NE and Hornady is making me a custom reloading die set. They can custom make a shell holder as well but the price is exorbitant. No manufacturer that I am aware of is currently making a shell holder for the cartridge and I can't reload for it without one.

Any leads are appreciated!

CH4D most likely has one (and they are high quality shell holders). I had Hornady make me one and it gave up on the 19th resizing. Then I got one from CH4D. The 450#2 rim being thicker doesn’t allow for as much material left over after they mill in the slot, obviously being the Achilles heel. CH4D shell holders are hardened (they also make excellent die sets)

Thank you very much, I will reach out to them.

Talked with Brian at CH4D this morning and he had the shellholders in stock as well as a die set for the cartridge based of of Kynoch dimensions. I ordered a set and if they are what I need I may not need to wait 16 weeks for the Hornady dies!

Thanks again!

Glad to help ! The guys at CH4D are good people. You will find their products top grade. I have CH4D dies in 450#2, 400HH, and 404J.

Call Redding Dies. Ask for tech support. They'll go in their book and figure out the nominal dimensions of the cartridge. They will have a $9 shellholder that will work, 95% odds.

RCBS custom shellholders are like $75 and take an eternity to be fabricated. They are the best, and they are oversized, nearly the size of a half dollar. That may be a problem for you in some presses as well. But the plus is they have more meat on the shell holder than a hornady, redding, or a standard size RCBS production run shellholder.

I spent a month doing all these calculations and now have $9 shell holders for every single major dangerous game cartridge. The only exception I could not solve cheap is 577NE, those require a huge custom shell holder.

Thanks Rookhawk, that is good information. I already ordered a couple from CH4D as they were in stock and price wasn't bad. Hornady wanted $100 to fab the first one and $50 for subsequent shellholder... yikes!

I have the Area 419 Zero Press so plenty of room on the ram. I just need to get a hybrid turret that has some 1-1/4" holes to mount the CH4D dies when they arrive.

You didn't mention that part. Warning warning. I wrote a whole article on this site about shellholders on the 419 press. Only the STANDARD shellholders will work. The CH4D and the custom RCBS will not fit on your ram. The diameter of the recess in the ram demands only a Redding sized shellholder. If you can find my post, I made a spreadsheet that stated what shellholder for what caliber to work on your zero press.

So to recap. Cancel your order. Call redding. Find my old article.

Every day it seems is two steps forward, one step back on this project. My standard RCBS shell holders work perfectly with the press. The guy at CH4D said his shell holders would have the same standard base. Oh well. I will read your previous post and make arrangements accordingly. Thank you for the info!

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx
