I can’t say that I’ve come across a negative opinion online about the Talkeetna. I do like the idea of it being a bit more climate versatile in the weather resistance aspect of things. I’d be curious how a mercury recoil reducer would further improve its shootability. I just wish there were some for sale. I can’t find anything new or used out there.TOBY458 hit the nail on the head, the Talkeetna kicks a whole lot less than other .375H&H rifles. I have previously owned both a Winchester Super Grade and Browning Stainless Stalker in .375H&H, they both kicked terribly and the Winchester jammed way too many times in dangerous situtations. This Talkeetna is a dream to shoot and carry. I have mine topped with a Schmidt and Bender, in 1.5-6x42. I also have had great success with Barnes ammo.
Not sure why you would want to add so much extra weight and such a big scope on an otherwise lightweight rifle. They are perfect with a nice lightweight Leupold 1.5-5×20 for dangerous game. And a Leupold 3-9×40 for plains game. Both in QD rings for easy interchangeability.Unless.....@TOBY458.....you’ve reconsidered selling your Talkeetna. I was thinking. A nice Nightforce NX8 would be a sweet piece of glass for a rifle like that.
I’ve got an FN M70 featherweight in 30-06 and find it to be pleasant enough off hand or off sticks. It’s not bad but not the most fun in the world prone or off the bench. I’ve kept it sparse with Talley LW rings and a 2.5-8x leupold. I toyed with getting a new Safari Express in 375h&h but might hold out for a Talkeetna now with all of this input.I’ll third the comments about recoil. My M70 -06 Featherweight is WAY worse on recoil than my Talkeetna. I’ve actually gone prone with my Kimber just to see how it does out to 400! It did just fine!!!
I guess I didn’t realize that the nightforce was 17oz compared to the Leupold VX3i’s 9.3oz. I supposed the 375h&h would generate a fair amount more recoil than anything I have in the arsenal. My lightweight Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 isn’t too terrible with the hotter Hornady LeverRevolution stuff. Not sure why you would want to add so much extra weight and such a big scope on an otherwise lightweight rifle. I believe you'll find the 375 is in the same recoil league as your 45/70. Not too bad at all to me.I guess I didn’t realize that the nightforce was 17oz compared to the Leupold VX3i’s 9.3oz. Nice! The guide gun with stout loads aren’t the most fun from the bench but are a hoot to shoot offhand.I believe you'll find the 375 is in the same recoil league as your 45/70. Not too bad at all to me.
