Want To Buy Kimber Talkeetna

I have one and it's a great rifle. The rifle is light for a 375, but due to the stock design, it actually seems to have less felt recoil than any of my other heavier weight 375s.
The only drawback to me is the blind magazine. I would prefer a hinged floorplate. But that's just my own preference.
Overall, you'd have to buy a Dakota at a much higher price to get a rifle of equal quality.
Good luck with your search!

Thanks!!!! I’ve always dreamed of hunting Africa ever since I was a kid. Talkeetna seems like a great option for kimber quality, without the price tag of the Caprivi. Even though I have a soft spot for beautiful wood, it’s not quite in the budget.

TOBY458 hit the nail on the head, the Talkeetna kicks a whole lot less than other .375H&H rifles. I have previously owned both a Winchester Super Grade and Browning Stainless Stalker in .375H&H, they both kicked terribly and the Winchester jammed way too many times in dangerous situtations. This Talkeetna is a dream to shoot and carry. I have mine topped with a Schmidt and Bender, in 1.5-6x42. I also have had great success with Barnes ammo.

I can’t say that I’ve come across a negative opinion online about the Talkeetna. I do like the idea of it being a bit more climate versatile in the weather resistance aspect of things. I’d be curious how a mercury recoil reducer would further improve its shootability. I just wish there were some for sale. I can’t find anything new or used out there.

Unless.....@TOBY458.....you’ve reconsidered selling your Talkeetna. I was thinking. A nice Nightforce NX8 would be a sweet piece of glass for a rifle like that.

I’ll third the comments about recoil. My M70 -06 Featherweight is WAY worse on recoil than my Talkeetna. I’ve actually gone prone with my Kimber just to see how it does out to 400! It did just fine!!!

Not sure why you would want to add so much extra weight and such a big scope on an otherwise lightweight rifle. They are perfect with a nice lightweight Leupold 1.5-5×20 for dangerous game. And a Leupold 3-9×40 for plains game. Both in QD rings for easy interchangeability.

I’ve got an FN M70 featherweight in 30-06 and find it to be pleasant enough off hand or off sticks. It’s not bad but not the most fun in the world prone or off the bench. I’ve kept it sparse with Talley LW rings and a 2.5-8x leupold. I toyed with getting a new Safari Express in 375h&h but might hold out for a Talkeetna now with all of this input.

I guess I didn’t realize that the nightforce was 17oz compared to the Leupold VX3i’s 9.3oz. I supposed the 375h&h would generate a fair amount more recoil than anything I have in the arsenal. My lightweight Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 isn’t too terrible with the hotter Hornady LeverRevolution stuff.

I believe you'll find the 375 is in the same recoil league as your 45/70. Not too bad at all to me.

I’ve got the same rings/scope on my Talkeetna, great combo. I had Leupold burn me a CDS dual, it’s a great setup!

Be prepared to work on it. This is coming from a Kimber Caprivi 375HH owner. So far I’ve had to do all this out of the box before shooting. It wouldn’t even feed out of the box.
- tighten the guard screws
- tighten cross bolts
- lap the action
- lap the feed lips
- adjust 1 mile of creep out of the trigger and it still has intermittent creep. The trigger is just shit.
- and for the icing on the cake I shot my friggin barrel band sling swivel off this weekend.

I have plans to get the trigger tech trigger for it and properly attach said barrel band. 80~ rounds down the pipe and I really can’t tell you if it shoots or not yet. Every time I’ve been out with it I’ve had a problem with it.

I should have just bought the Dakota 76 safari I found at the same time. It was $7500 10 months ago now it’s $8500. All said and done I didn’t save any money over the Dakota in the end. Not a happy Kimber owner at the moment.

Seems like Kimbers are from one extreme to the other. Too bad as a good 8400 is a great gun and the good ones have proven reliability.
I have a Talkeetna 375 and it is a go to. I use 260 part at almost 2800 with the scope and Leupold QD rings. The open iron sights are set up for 300 gr Swift Aframes and Sledgehammer solids at 50/75 yds. Works for me.
I bought it to replace my 340 and it has worked well giving me more flex behind a Brno 458Lott.

I’m shifting up my 375’s and might be willing to part with my talkeetna, PM me if you are still interested.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.
