This is a mount that I saw a picture of years ago and thought how cool it was. I stumbled across it again today and had to share it. I believe it was done in the 1800s and is called "the messenger". It really tells a story.

Meet Carl Akeley. He posed with the leopard he killed with his bare hands after it attacked him back in 1896.

Very impressive feat. Thank goodness it wasn't full grown.

The taxidermy of his that I am most impressed with is the heard of elephants in the American Museum of Natural History in NYC.

Still impressive after many decades.

I have seen a quite a bit of 50-100 year old taxidermy that doesn't look real great. His stuff stands the test of time.
