Veterans Day

Concur. You are the reason I have the liberties I have.

Thank you and appreciation to all who have and are still serving our great country. Honoring also all the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we cherish so much.

Now we stand behind old men’s faces
Speak of forgotten times and places
So bent are those who wouldn't break
Who did fearsome things with lives at stake
Their shadows sharp and darker then
Now fading away are these old men
But no one can steal the legends bold
Not thieves nor liars nor growing old
To never weave excuses that some men must
But to stand with men who earned our trust
And speak of what we did back then
Before we became, these old men.

Thank you for the well wishes and thanks Red Leg for sharing.

Sincerely, thank you to all who have served. In a time when do much seems so messed up we should never lose sight of the service of so many who gave of their time and lives in support of our freedoms.

All gave some. Some gave all. A heartfelt Thank You to all who have served, do serve and will serve. A moment of silence to the memory of those who gave all.

Every Veterans Day I think about my uncle who taught me how to hunt. He lied about his age to join the Army in 1942. He was Airborne for life. He served in both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. Served in North Africa and the invasion of Sicily. Was severely wounded by a hand grenade at Anzio. Six months in a hospital. Then shipped back to the States. Was assigned to a base in Utah where he helped test experimental parachutes and other gear. He helped develop the HALO jump. Two tours in Vietnam. Two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with 3 Oak Leaves and the V device for Valor. He achieved the rank of CWO to the 3rd power….as he used to say. When he passed, the boys at Fort Bragg sent an honor guard to his funeral. The leader of the detail said that they couldn’t stand the thought of a straight leg honor guard burying one of their brothers. He did a lot of living in his 87 years. I listened to his stories from the time I could carry a Zebco spincaster.

Thank you can never be enough. This is my way of letting service members know I will never forgot what has been done for all of us. John

White Crosses and Strings

"In formation at rest, as in life." Clinton Lowe, October 2019
Hymn a l’amour (Hymn to Love, Edith Piaf). By 3 strings, October 2019

Youth
Youthful joy springs forth on grassy yard.
Boys raucously play without a care.
Content, a mother’s loving eyes aware.

Excited, exhausted, flushed cheeks;
A long spring slams the screen door shut;
Picnic table, plaid-cloth their field hut.

Laughter echoes, fills the neighborhood.
Gentle breeze, a leaf-whisper bears.
Love unbound, Rice-Krispy squares.

Fingers and strings create a mood,
Bright notes race across the bars,
Sounds that match the twinkling stars.

Violin, guitar and cello; Piaf unfurled.
Moms’ hugs – all’s safe in their world.

Love
White lines bound green field squares;
Young men partner with their peers.
On a rough bleacher, mom cheers!

Giggles among the stadium girls;
Soft secrets shared behind innocent eyes.
Blossoming love, a hoped-for prize.

They wave to mom from the car’s front seat.
Loving tears blur her happy vision.
Happy tears blur her loving vision!

Slide up the neck a crescendo building;
Light finger pads plink foreverness.
Deep bass notes resound cavernous!

Score’s cello-part trembles with love’s herald.
Girls’ sweet kisses – all’s right in their world.

Duty
Green vehicles with white stars rumble.
Shoulder to shoulder, packs they wear;
Wave salt-spray stings eyes that stare.

Sand grits under soaked clothes, boots.
Rain splatters red beach stains;
Green cliffs secure, victory reigns!

Two women – one old, one young;
Happy contemplations battle woeful fears.
Their shattered vision sheds empty tears.

Desolate chords, despondent melody.
Broken rhythm cries despairingly!
Fingers find notes frettingly.

Three parts as one outflow.
Men catch each other’s eyes – and know.

Sacrifice
White crosses in formation on green fields.
Wispy clouds streak cold blue sky;
Gnarled trees. The wind a sigh.

Waves crash beaches below the cliff;
Evil stole their lives too soon.
Their women’s cries shriek from the moon!

I stand here, unknown to them;
A heavy heart and thankful hand.
Eternal sacrifice their team’s band.

Soft music catches breath and soul;
Called them, “Join her in life’s dance.”
Are you prepared to take that chance?

One last, sweet note strums a wren.
We bow to them – and Pray Amen.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
