Validating African Hunting Outfitter

Hello all, apologies if this is not the right thread…I’ve been in contact with an outfitter but want to see if anyone has utilized their services. They have a nice brochure, website and the gentleman I’ve emailed seems knowledgeable. I just want to make sure everything is on the up and up. I looked up the person’s name in PHASA and I don’t believe it’s there (first initial didn’t match). Is there another way to verify the authenticity other than asking for licenses?

PHASA website should have a tab were you are able to view all the current registered members if not mistaken you could also ask for his PHASA membership number.
Should look something like this

Welcome to Africa Hunting forums @EverydaySportsman
Please tell us a little about yourself on the Introductions and Greets forum;
There is no rule but 99% of us indroduce ourselves to the other members.

Waidmannsheil Safaris may or may not be the best safari outfitter in South Africa. It is good that you are seeking references prior to sending them any money.

Let me suggest that you consider one of the safari outfitters that sponsor this forum. Why you may ask? If you stay here long enough you will find that the 100,000+ members while very polite, do not tolerate "rude behavior" from man nor beast nor safari outfitter :)

All joking aside, about every month a new to Africa hunter joins us asking about this or that outfitter. Mostly they won or bought a hunt in an auction and the trophy fees seem high. Hmmm, maybe the fees are high to make up for the outfitter's donation to SCI, DSC, or local organization?

Bottom line is that there are thousands of safari outfitters in South Africa. Of those there are many good outfitters who own the land on which they hunt. There are others who hunt on other's lands. That's not bad but the for me, I like to engage with the land owner. Why, in South Africa the land owner owns the animals which will be hunted. The owner is more likely to treat a good client to something special...

If you will click on this link it will take you to the AH sponsor listings that include over 50 South African outfitters,

Do yourself a favor and compare whatever the unknown safari outfitter is offering to any of these sponsors. Send the AH sponsor a note or call them for free using the WhatsApp phone application. Trust me, no outfitters would survive on this forum is they try to squeeze every last dollar out of a new client!

If I haven't convinced you yet, take a look at the Africa Hunt Reports forum,
https://www.africahunting.com/community/hunting-reports/
One can search within that forum for specific outfitters.

Here is a two-phase hunt report of the South Africa outfitter that I liked so much that I returned,

Many well respected members hunt with Bos en Dal Safaris,

There are of course many other outfitters with positive reviews in this forum. I recommend you read, read, and read. Then, reach out to members here. Most will talk via phone to give you details that most short of Tolstoy or Hemmingway are not able to put into written words.

Being apart of their national association is not a prerequisite. Many of the top RSA Outfitters and PH's do not belong to PHASA but belong to some type of association, whatever they feel aligns with their views and who they feel represent them better.
I'm sure there are members who have hunted with them and will chime in. All the best with your research.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
