Has anyone else watched the pilot for Jim Shockey's "Uncharted"? I just watched it and it was great. By far the best hunting tv show on air right now. Not only does it show exotic hunts, but it also shows great parts of the world. It is sort of like Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations", but with hunting instead of cooking. This could be the first hunting show that non-hunters may actually like as well. Another part of the shoe that I liked eas when Jim Shockey made a bad shot and a deer got away. He then went on and on about how it was his fault and all of the mistakes he made. You never see hunting shows today that don't actually just edit out bad shots and have hosts that admit to making bad shots (how many times have I heard Ted Nugent say his shot was a little back or slightly off but still great after he gut shots or spines a deer). I am eagerly awaiting the next episode of "Uncharted".

Yea I saw it, looks great.

I am also pretty sick of hearing that whole "it might have been a little far back but it is still a good shot" thing. That and the whooping and hollering and carrying on like they just got Bin Laden or something. When did football behavior enter hunting anyway?

Give me Jim Shockey and Ivan Carter on a cold MN Sunday morning and keep that damned pig man locked in his basement. From his behavior you'd swear he just killed a Tyrannosaurus Rex every time he spine shoots a piglet.

Jim Shockey is a professional. Even though everything he does is top end priced, he is still humble. He has never forgot where he came from which endures him tohis fellow hunters.

Hate the whooping and hollering guys. Hunter's should honor the kill, not do an endzone dance.
With any kill I've made, We savor the moment without the fanfare. I've taught my kids to do the same.

I don't know any shows about whitetail hunting I care to watch. They're not hunting shows, just kill-shot shows...... and whooping/hollering.

Lana and I will watch Under Wild Skies, Ivan Carter-Dark and Dangerous, and Tracks Across Africa.
Lana likes Fred Eichler and Jim Shockey also. I can't think of any other guys I watch for NA animal hunts, except occasionally.

I enjoyed how Uncharted is exploring how people of different cultures and experience can come together as hunters. This is a good start!

I am normally a pretty positive guy. That being said, I really don't see how Unchartered is that much different than the Professionals.

the Professionals uses charts??

I haven't seen uncharted yet, but about 13 seconds into the promo Shockey actually says "there are no charts". lol.

haven't seen it yet but am really looking forward to it. as far as the endzone dance is concerned. i get excited too and there's nothing wrong with that as long as it's sincere. some of the guys do get a little carried away though. i do admire how guys like jim shockey and ivan carter handle their business though. they represent the very best of modern sportsman. i have tremendous amount of resepct for the two.

I saw it last night and enjoyed it. There is no better place for the first episode than Papua New Guinea, it may be the least explored place on Earth.

I hate what's happened to some of the hunting shows. Most have been red necked out with comments like " We put the slam down on that deer" or daaammm bo.we done put the ho down on that sucker. Hopefully the African hunting shows won't get like that. Leave my Africa alone..

I extremely hate Waddell's "that's the mackdaddy ___________"

wouldn't have his name on anything I own.

Waddell is super annoying. The only person that is worse is Stan Potts.

It hasn't aired up north yet.. :(

Though if you want to watch some whitetail hunting with true wild deer watch Canadian Whitetail Television (if it airs south of the border) or catch Hunting Canada & Beyond.. 2 true hunting shows... Both are hosted by down home Saskatchewan boys too..

Someone here in Anchorage mentioned the Canadian Whitetail Television show to me recently but, so far I have not been able to watch it.

Likely I need to buy a different (more expensive) cable TV package deal, with better channels on it.

It was described to me as a good show to watch, nobody wearing a baseball cap on backwards, screeching and laughing about having taken some steroid fed deer's life, with a laser guided crossbow bolt or whatever, etc.

I talked to Shockley at a outdoor show for only a few minutes. I told him how I enjoyed the Professionals. He told me Uncharted was going to be better. I also thanked him for not acting like a jackass every time he took an animal. I told him its one of the few hunting shows that I will allow my sons to watch and not have to worry if they'll get the wrong message. Any show Ivan Carter does is A rated as well.

The worst thing a hunting show can do is put the camera behind the downed animal and stage the hunter "looking" for his animal and then point to it and say "there it is!" Make me reach for the remote real fast. There is enough real drama in a fair chase hunt and no need to add any fake drama.

Watched it last night, and I agree with all above. Quality show. Branlin has a real gift for turning the locals into real people rather than just stage props. Interesting corner of the world. Some of the fiercest fighting of WWII took place between the Australians and Japanese in exactly the same areas they were hunting - stopping the Japanese offensive toward Port Moseby and then pushing them back up and over the Owen Stanley Mtns to the area they will be hunting water buffalo next week. The conditions those troops fought in were horrific, and looking at the terrain those deer call home, one can see why.

I am conflicted over redneck hunting TV. I can't watch it. That said, it helps maintain interest in our sport among a large swath of our population. We probably need all the friends we can get.

This is what I love about this forum, it is a gentleman's forum.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
