UA 188 is cancelled between Newark and Johannesburg because of fuel shortage in Johannesburg. Anyone else on this flight got notification yet.

I leave tomorrow morning. I haven't received anything other than notice of a fuel shortage. I checked the dates on United and everything tomorrow to JNB routes through Frankfurt with the final leg on Lufthansa. Jenn @TRAVEL EXPRESS Is working on this as I type.
Current flights for tomorrow show arrival on 04/27 at 0830.

Well Crap!
Not what I wanted to hear! I am still 3 weeks out for United Flight on May 17th. Hope all is worked out soon for everyone.

Fuel shortage in Joburg? Notice to RSA government: You have to pay your bills instead of stealing the airport's income. What are those that are booked on the return flight supposed to do and for how long? SMH

After reading about the "fuel shortage" it turns out its listed as due to staffing issues and current fuel prices. Airlines are not making enough off of travelers so they are canning certain flights.

Fuel shortage / staffing, airline speak for we don't have enough paying passengers. What a bunch of bullshit and no I don't expect them to fly airplanes light, just schedule for when they have a profitable load, like once a week.

My flight tomorrow morning through Newark still shows as being in place. I looked at Qatar in case I have to change airlines. Not a good position to be in.

Crap I leave may 3rd for leopard in Namibia. Wtf. Good luck everyone affected.

Checking flightaware this is the first time in the last two weeks. Hopefully it is not a more common occurrence.

We had a United flight get canceled earlier this month due to "staffing issues". And we only found out about 8 hrs before the flight was supposed to leave. Threw a huge wrench in our travel plans. Luckily it all worked out, but we had to scramble at the last minute to get booked on other airlines.

Luckily it seems to only have affected yesterdays flight into JNB, and the return back from JNB. @Vanguard2279 - glad we didn't have to rebook!

Also, as a side note, I did have two hunters rerouted via Frankfurt. I submitted all the appropriate paperwork and gun/ ammo details to the airlines and Frankfurt authorities without issue! Clients have reported they transited successfully!

And just when we thought we were safe, UA wreeks back upon our lives. Major thanks to Travel Agent/Crisis Manager Jenn @TRAVEL EXPRESS for saving the situation. I guess I’m visiting Frankfurt.

Very informative thread. Reinforces my thinking about using a travel agent and not winging it.

I flew that flight UA188 in late February and return mid March…..both my flights were cancelled and rebooked, thankfully cancellations were two months prior to scheduled flights so one day early departure and one day later return. I noted in a post the details in the Before and After earlier this year. Seems to be the norm with airlines in the current enviroment

So just the one cancellation? Excuses but he truth is if the plane is not close to full United and Delta won’t fly. Qatar will.

Just another reason to dislike United!

Just be thankful it's not CDG in Paris.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
