Basically making a post in a thread so that it is fresh and gets sent to the top of the list of “new” posts whenever someone signs in.

You’ll also see people say “bump”, and a few other things..

It’s the original poster trying to make sure the thread isn’t pushed way down where no one notices it… it’s a pretty common way to keep attention on a thread and make sure people that don’t sign in frequently get a chance to see it.
