Meyrick Bowker of BOWKER SAFARIS offers hunters an even wider range of opportunities, including exclusive hunting packages and family-only safaris designed to create unforgettable experiences.

In addition to world-class plains game hunting, Meyrick specializes in dangerous game hunting in Southern Africa, including Cape buffalo, leopard, lion, elephant, and rhino. BOWKER SAFARIS also offers premier bow hunting opportunities and world-class wing shooting for avid bird hunters.

BOWKER SAFARIS brings you the perfect combination of decades of professional expertise, generations of hunting tradition, and an unmatched understanding of Africa’s diverse landscapes. This collaboration delivers truly world-class African hunting safaris tailored for discerning hunters seeking authenticity, adventure, and lifelong memories.

A Legacy of Excellence in Southern African Hunting
Bowker Safaris offers the ultimate and most comprehensive hunting experiences across Southern Africa. We are a proudly family-owned hunting operation, founded in 1970. Our hunting heritage, however, goes back much further – to the early 1800s, when the Bowker family first arrived in Southern Africa. From that time, Bowker men and women have hunted extensively, from the rugged Eastern Cape to the wild expanses of the continent.

Meyrick Bowker – Professional Hunter, Rancher, and Conservationist

A Legacy Rooted in the Eastern Cape

Meyrick Bowker is a professional hunter, sixth-generation rancher, and dedicated conservationist based at Thornkloof, his family’s historic ranch in Grahamstown (Makhanda), Eastern Cape, South Africa. Thornkloof has been the Bowker family’s home since 1843, representing over 180 years of stewardship and connection to the land. Meyrick proudly continues this legacy, blending authentic African hunting traditions with modern wildlife management.

From 1996 to 2000, Meyrick expanded his skills internationally, guiding big game hunts in Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. These expeditions saw him successfully pursue elk, whitetail deer, mule deer, and pronghorn antelope.

His hunting experience also spans Hawai‘i, Georgia, and Texas, as well as dangerous game throughout most South African provinces, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. This international exposure has given Meyrick exceptional insight into wildlife behaviour, terrain navigation, and conservation best practices—expertise he now shares with clients booking family hunting packages in the Eastern Cape or family hunts in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Blending pioneer heritage with modern convenience, the Settlers’ Cottage and Big House offer a memorable stay in the heart of the Eastern Cape wilderness.

The parks are large with free-roaming predators. You can see large parts of the countryside and enjoy an authentic wilderness experience rather than being confined to a small game farm with limited flexibility.
