I had a hunt booked for the summer of 2018, but due to a medical emergency had to postpone the trip until the summer of 2019. We did not have travel insurance. We are all booked up and ready for this coming summer, but getting there (all ready) was a four alarm PITA! At the end of the day, the only additional cost incurred was with the airlines (many thanks to those involved in Africa!) but I never want to go through that process again.

All that to ask, who do y'all use for travel insurance? This is primarily for covering the cost of the trip.....

Thanks!

Typically,I have just used the vendors insurance offerings.

Most recently I used Ripcord travel insurance. It is a combination travel insurance and medical evacuation insurance. It was very inexpensive and was set up for me by TWG Travel along with my airfare. As I read the policy I was shocked at not only how cheap it was but also what it covered. The fine print was nonexistent and was all very clearly written. Global Rescue offers similar products. AA and other airlines offer basic travel insurance as well. I recommend doing your homework on this and reading all the details to find what is right for you.
If you or an immediate family member had a medical emergency like you mentioned then all of the travel policies would cover the travel expenses. The deposit on a safari could be another story so again do the research and by all means lean on your travel agent for this and other travel details. Final advice Use a Travel Agent!
Regards,
Philip

Before buying travel insurance for a hunting safari, check the fine print. Many of the world's insurance underwriters don't approve of hunting and consequently most policies specifically exclude claims arising from hunting activities. I was unaware of this until just before my 2014 hunt. Eventually found a policy which didn't exclude hunting but it cost twice as much. Unfortunately that company no longer covers hunting so I'm back to looking for alternatives. ps your local Travel Agent is probably oblivious to the issue unless they are a specialist for hunters.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
