My African friends tell me that Hyena are more powerful and more clever than wolves and I'm open to the possibility. As a trapper in the US, I was naturally curious about what it would take to trap a hyena. I was surprised to find nothing on trapping hyena on the internet but I don't speak Afrikaans so there might be something out there. Does anyone have any information on trapping hyena? If it's a webpage in Afrikaans just post the link and I will dealwith it.

Probably have to some type of noose wire set to get one.
At the same time, you would probably kill one and just end up feeding the rest of the pack with it.

I was thinking a foothold trap but what size and model has worked in the past. What do the biologists use when they want to catch and collar etc. one.

Bait and a dart gun.

They are powerful, yes and the big ones can weigh 90 kg,But
a hyena is much easier to get as a wolf. They are not stupid, but the shy(ness ?) of the wolves they don't have.
Only an old bear,or boar is to compare with a wolf.Hunted all and frozen my a.... off to get a wolf.
Its not very common in Africa to trap a hyena with an iron or a snare.
In former times ,the farmer I met ,they used Strychnin
How many wolves do you got this winter ?

We can't trap or hunt wolves in Washington State ... yet.

The best currently made foothold trap for wolves is considered to be the #9 Alaska/Manning trap. With a 9 inch jaw spread, it sounds like hyaena medicine.

You might also try snares, if there are good locations (eg, trails through brush) to set them.

Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
