I'm looking to load cast bullets in a 470NE and need to have the case mouths flared so as to not shave the lead while seating the bullets. It seems that a flare die for the 475 pistol cartridges should work. What's available to accomplish the flaring?

The Lee universal flare die is cheap, effective, works well with any caliber I've tried. But I checked mine and max. diameter is .470" so not enough for this cartridge. Before I bought the Lee I successfully flared a few case mouths with a tapered hole punch ( for leather and such) and a small hammer. A few taps is all it takes. Crude but effective.

I flare my 416 Rigby with the 44 mag die so you should be able to do with a 50 cal flare die. I did not check but maybe a 475 Linebaugh.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
