It was an absolutely beautiful day in North Texas today, so I took the opportunity to get out to a friend's ranch and put in some long overdue range time; as well as test out some handloads. The three rifles in the rack are (from Left to Right):
- JC Higgins Model 50 in 30-06 (dated June 1955)
- FN 1952 heavy barrel in 270 Winchester
- 1976 Ruger No. 1A in 270 Winchester (I had never fired this one before, but it turned out to be one sweet shooter and is now one of my favorites)

Results are in the photos below, and I was pretty pleased with them (it helped that conditions were pretty perfect today). Cheers!

I really like that Ruger No 1.

It looks like you have 3 very good rifles.

If you need a challenge to keep you busy this winter, I'll trade you 3 of the same calibers that don't shoot nearly as good and you can have a "project" to keep you busy!

Nice guns.

I’ve never seen a JC Higgins with wood like that. Nice rifle….
Thank you, @318AE . It is actually a restock that my Dad did several years ago. As was typical with many of his rifles, I think he picked it up at a LGS or pawn shop somewhere along the way (usually for a song), and I think my mom bought him the Boyd's semi-inletted walnut stock one year as a birthday present. He finished the inletting, glass bedded the action, and it turned out to be a real looker (IMO).

I have never shot these Rugers No1s but I have handled them. They are really nice and well made guns taken into consideration its a mass production product. The last No1 I handled overhere was a 9,3x74. Ekstremly slick. My only issue with these guns are once they go up in caliber. The pistol are too small. I have seen the in .416Rigby and its here one can say they are made out of the same mold. A Ruger No1 in .303, 30-30 , 7x57R or a 45-70 makes more sense.

Just goes to show you don't need any of these new fangled wizbangs when old shoots just as good or better.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx
