The new Heym 89B got his Buffalo…

Great looking rifle and bull! I am saving up for a 89B in 470 NE.
If going for the .470 in 89B I'd go for the .500 NE instead. If you can manage the recoil of the .470 then you can the .500. However, the .500 gives you a significant advantage over the .470 in regards to power and effectiveness. So far, 4 shots out of mine accounted for 2 elephants and 2 buffalo. Elephants dropped right there, and buffalo were dead when we got to them (double lung shots both).

Congrats!! Beautiful buff, love the boss’s on him. Drop is unreal

On heck of a rifle as well.

As mentioned, looking forward the full report!

Congrats on the Buffalo. BTW is than Hans Moatche with you in the picture. Sure looks like him. If it is, please tell Art Lambart says hello. He was working for Cruiser Safaris in 2016 when I hunted with him. IMHO he is one hell of a PH. I've had several PH(s) since then, none of whom could carry his lunch!!

Tanks, I take it you have the 89 in .500
If so, very cool.

I hate to get on this "Frame" thing again, but Not including the Gross Box. What is the smallest frame that can be used for the .500?
Gross Box & Next step down?

Congratulations!!!!!

I don't think I could dream up a more perfect buffalo....at least for my taste!

@Shootist43 I agree, that does look like Hans. I know he left Cruiser's several years ago to start his own company. Not sure where he is now though.
Sure looks like Hans. Hunted with him at Cruiser 2009 with my son. Hans Just got his DG Ph but not on his own just yet at Ken Moody Safaris I don' t know for sure if he is still in learning stage, been a few weeks since I last got to get info. The best Ph ever for first time hunter . Just taught my son so much in 2 weeks. Now my son hunts all he can. Thanks Hans

In the 89b the 500NE comes in either an Afrika frame at around 4.5kg, or Grosse Box

Hans was awesome. Between him and Jannie Nel I felt like I had two way overqualified PH’s. Took great care of me and put my then 12yo daughter on a fine Nyala.

During my hunt I noticed Hans was wearing a pair of beat up boots. After some poking around I figured out we wore the same size boot. I left him some cash and a pair of brand new Courteney Selous boots in hippo leather I had as my backups. I’m told he’s put a ton of miles on them.

With a bit of luck; we’ll let my daughter carry the 89B for her Buff sometime in 24’ and Hans will be with us again.

First, to the OP amazing Buffalo!!! Taking a bull like that with a double must have been a very enriching experience.

To answer Kevin’s note, my 500 is extremely manageable, more like a big push vs a jarring impact, and not at all bulky (in the first picture below it is compared to the small action 375).
I don’t know how to post video but also below is a screen grab of the highest point of recoil from a right barrel shot.

However, I believe that fit plays a significant role, as my brother who happily shoots his ultralight 375 from prone thinks the 500 is too much to handle.

Beautiful 89's & quite the difference's. Is the .500 on the Gross Box?
Thank you,

My question is: What are going to do now? I would sign on for an ele hunt as a 100 pounder has too have your name on it! Great looking buffalo. Besides being a beautiful gun it must have special powers!

Wiltznucs, thanks for the update on Hans. I agree with you. He is one hell of a PH.

I have often thought why not get as much triggertime with a doublerifle as possible. Hunt other game too from warthogs and up. I have a friend that went to afrika with a .577BPE to hunt eland. No eland presented it self during the 14 days and he went back with all loaded rounds except for the sighters shot in afrika. I would have hunted all game that presented to enjoy hunting with an old classic rifle while I was there anyway.
