I keep seeing (and lusting over) all these stunningly beautiful rifles. Lots of inlays, beautifully figured crotch walnut, engraving etc...
What I would love to see is some real, hard working guns. The battered, bruised & physically abused.
You'll probably laugh, but amongst my top 3 dream rifles is Phil Shoemaker's .458 'Old Ugly' I'm sure you've probably seen it before but for those who haven't here she is in all her hand made glory:

Phil built it up, with no power tools, whilst living in his cabin in Alaska. And I absolutely adore it.

So let me see what you've got!

This hard working enough for you? I make it a point not to batter, bruise or abuse any of my possessions (if you take care of things, they will last forever). But my Churchill Gunmakers Model Deluxe 7x57mm Mauser has been downing game in six of the world’s seven continents from 1989 to present.

Beautiful rifle, sir! I love a good patina & some honest to god truck & tree rash!
It looks like you & her have seen some stuff too. Awesome.

Thank you, Son. I named it “Kaniz” after my dear daughter. Anti poacher/pirate patrol duty in a mangrove forest (where saltwater is EVERYWHERE) can be very rough on firearms.

Mid 1950's Westley Richards 450 double as issued to the Southern Rhodesian game service. A very plain rifle but the lettering is gold inlay! Almost all of the bluing is gone.

Just like this .600 Nitro Express!

But are you sure about the year of manufacture, Kevin? Because according to my 1953 Westley Richards catalog … they were only manufacturing double rifles in the following calibers:

Savage 111 Scout in .308 with a few scratches. Would probably have more, but it's a tough kitty. Out the gate, I'd rather have a (restocked) 110 in order to be able to modify the magazine issues, but there's too much sentimental value in this one now.

Good topic for a thread! I literally wore and beat the stock and metal finish off my first bolt gun, a Win 70 in 270 Win. I finally had to cut about 1/2" off the muzzle and re-crown it to get past the buggered muzzle. Then put it in a cheap synthetic stock and did a DIY re-blue. Still shoots very well and is a shiny pearl user rifle compared to what it was before the re-new. Unfortunately never even thought of taking a picture of it before the re-furb. :)

Last two game animals taken by this rifle.

I will check on the calibre HH and get back to you.
He now says it is a 450-400, which isn't on the list either, so the bottom line is I think he just doesn't know - it wasn't his.

Here's my entry: I designed the cartridge, got the barrel from John Buhmiller, had the reamer made, had the dies made, had the rifle made around a P14 Enfield action. I tested the rifle and the cartridge.
I loaded a supply of ammunition, took it to Africa and killed rhino, elephant and Cape buffalo with it.
Strictly no frills. The cartridge, which I dubbed the .505 SRE (Short Range Express), is the one in the middle.

Still, my favorite rifle that you used to own ... will be that Springfield Model 1903A3 in .458 Winchester Magnum. Never saw a more beautiful looking rifle.
