Covid and changing jobs have moved our hunt 3 times. Finally ironed out for May 12 of this year. Had to book Turkish airlines out of DFW as the Delta flights appear to keep having less and less options. Have 9 hours in Istanbul in both directions then flying SAFAIR from Johan to East London.

Questions: reviews on the hotel in Istanbul look terrible... Anyone have experience? Love to lay down for few hours and grab a shower. Flying with my wife and plan to only do carry ons but if stuck bringing a bag, do we have to grab our luggage then recheck or will they hold them for the layover?

Other question: i booked the SAFAIR flights seperate then thought about the fact i may need to "check in" at Johan before they let us on next flight. Am i thinking correctly? only hour between flights so would hate to have to do security again. Another reason i plan to make sure the wife only does a carry on.

Looking forward to the trip! Now to start shooting even more.

Can’t speak to Istanbul but going to be pushing it in Johannesburg, you have to go through immigration and depending on how busy they are may take some time. If taking your own rifles you won’t make it . They should be able to check your bags to South Africa from istanbul but that is a question for a travel agent. Try Jennifer at travel express in Montana, she is a wealth of knowledge. Also Africa runs on its own time , really relaxed is a nice way of putting it.

We are going to travel with just carry ons and no checked guns/luggage. Guy from last year said he made it from gate to gate in 20 minutes so was hoping that might work. Just not sure if need to go through security and "check in" before can board in johan

As long as you don’t leave the secure area probably won’t have to be re-screened. But in Doha last year we were screened between gates and then at the gate on our connecting flight back to DFW. I’ve been 4 times and the airport experience were different each time .Good luck on your hunt and safe travels!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
