Two of our taxidermy mounts that recently arrived from South Africa, while fine from a taxidermy perspective, offered the opportunity for some upgrades.

Tools used included a drill and a hot glue gun.

Using artificial grasses and bushes purchased at Hobby Lobby and an artificial rock ordered from a taxidermy supply website, my wife and I set to sprucing up the mounts. We tried to add color and height variation in the vegetation to amplify a sense of depth and scale.

All in all, a fun little project that required no skill and not much time. We're very happy with the results:

Giraffe after. We added, among other things, oranges to the base. The giraffe's last meal had been oranges, so we felt it added a nice touch:

Here's the nyala, as originally received:

Very nice upgrade!

Looks great! What a difference!
Who did your taxidermy in South Africa and what was your overall experience with it?

The taxidermy was done by Karl Human Taxidermy. Overall quality of the taxidermy is ok, no issues. Taxidermy was completed in less than a year, so trophies made it back to us at about the 12 months since safari mark.

Nice stuff bud!! All looks good!

Looks good, nice upgrades.

Who did the lifesize Doberman? Sorry I could not resist.

Wow! Very nice. I didn't think a giraffe could turn his head 360 degrees like that. Very impressive.

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
