The story of two African history twins . They may look different , but they are quite similar .

The 7mm Mauser and 7x61 SH , both share a millitary pedigree . The Mauser is well known , but the 7x61 is rather unknown .

It all began when Philip Sharpe that under ww2 was a ordinance officer came across a semi auto rifle in a French arsenal just marked « Mle 1907 ,7mm»

Intrigued as he was , he asked around . No one knew about that , what when , how . He brought the rifle home , and made a chamber cast .

Boy , no such powder existed then for that kind of case . Out came a case in size of .300 HH width .

After much experimenting the case was made with the belt on , as not to ruin brass .

Then came Rudolf Sand with his 7x61 and most of 281 species of game world wide .

In Angola it was a hunting club called Palanka after the Gigant Sable , that club used 7x61s for most of their hunts .

This ammo portrayed is loaded with 160 Amax of 160 NP , have a 160 Barnes also and its with exception of android sorted for most needs worldwide .

The 7x57 portrayed is loaded with 177 Brenneke TIG , have a good solid or bonded next to it and its one world rifle with a few exceptions .

And one thing both of them can tackle is lead free bullets also but other CIP lead like

Geco , PPU ,LFB have many good options that can handle many different needs and areas .

For jungle I think Woodleigh or their Hydro would be quite good , light recoil , good performance in case something big turns up . But it’s hard to beat Northfork and Rhino as some of the best ones to choose from .

As one can see the combo gun with 7x57 R barrel is a nice option also

The rifle in the red chair is the 7x57 when I picked it up , then it had a Khales scope , now a Leupold

With the setup of 3 cases , 2 diesel , 1 bullet there is very little else that one can leave unwanted .

However let us not forget the 162 , 173 grain soft and solid they made their fame with , from Africa to Alaska and Great India , aswell as well on Cuba in 1898 , many a great destiny came from that little tropical island to lead and inspire others , as to speak .
