South African Airways (SAA) acknowledges and would like to thank our customers and stakeholders for the support and understanding during the inconvenience experienced during the industrial action reported on yesterday, Wednesday 26 April. Our planned flight schedules have resumed - whilst operations are geared to full service recovery, we remain exposed to minimal operational delays. Ouch! Hope that our AH members don't get caught up in the issues!

"industrial action" ---- that's a new one

What SAA on strike! Lol. Don't they strike over something several times a year?

what else can go wrong?

I hope to be flying with them in Mid May. Hope they get their $hit together.
Randy

I'm flying in June, I hope they get their crap together. The plane tickets prices are bad enough...putting up with more BS unacceptable.

"industrial action" ---- that's a new one

Actually a fairly common term when refering to a unionized workforce. There's actually a subset of Human Resource professionals that are Industrial Relations specialist. I guess it's the modern PC term.

Strike ends at South African Airways after court ruling
http://abcnews.go.com/International...s-south-african-airways-court-ruling-47052174

South African Airways says cabin crewmembers whose strike forced some flight cancellations have returned to work after a court order.

The financially struggling airline said Thursday that it hopes for a negotiated solution to the dispute with the South African Cabin Crew Association, a labor union whose members went on strike Wednesday to demand higher meal allowances when working outside South Africa.

The airline says 50 flights, including 28 domestic ones, were cancelled Wednesday. Later that day, a labor court ruled that the strike was not allowed under terms of the crewmembers' contracts.

Currently, cabin crewmembers get a meal allowance of $130 per trip. They wanted $170, arguing that the allowance had not increased in half a dozen years and that they stay in international hotels where food is expensive.

Thanks for the update.

Sunday April 30th update: fyi..............."downed tools" is another euphemism for going on strike or industrial action. After a hot day on the picket line, I guess they go to a pub and down beers. :D Beers:

SACCA: CABIN CREW STRIKE TO CONTINUE ONCE INTERDICT IS LIFTED

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) has confirmed it has filed papers with the Labour Court to rescind the interdict granted to South African Airways (SAA) ordering workers to return to their posts.

Sacca says all their members have returned to work, abiding by the court decision.

The workers downed tools last Thursday, demanding that the airline addresses their demands, which among others includes an increase in the daily meal allowance from $131 a day to $170.

The association says once the interdict is lifted they will go on a protected strike until their demands are met.

Sacca President Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi says: “We have filed papers with the Labour Court to have the date forward to as early as next week Wednesday (3 May) and give an interim interdict uplifted and thereafter we plan to continue striking.”

Court bans SAA strike action
SOUTH AFRICA ,Thursday 4 May 2017 - 5:55 am

JOHANNESBURG - South African Airways (SAA) said on Wednesday that they had successfully argued at the Labour Court to have an interim order granted during the cabin crew meal strike as a final order.

About a week ago SAA cabin crew members embarked on a one-day strike because they felt the $130 (R1,735) they were receiving for meals was too little. They wanted the airline to increase the amount to $170 (R2,269).

“Whilst we appreciate that the appeal by South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) has been overturned and that an interim order has been made final, we do not see this as a matter of winners and losers,” said SAA spokesperson, Tlali Tlali in a statement.

The strike action led to a number of SAA flight disruptions and cancellations, leaving many passengers stranded at various airports.

SAA approached the Labour Court and argued successfully to have SACCA and its members interdicted from embarking on industrial action and declaring the industrial action an unprotected strike.

This was after the labour union appealed to the court against the interim order granted in favour of the airline.

“For us, the key objective remains focusing on those things we must immediately pay attention to, so that the company remains in business and its employees looked after. Those things include exploring avenues that will lead to a resolution of disputed issues between the airline and the affected employees,” Tlali said.

“Our cabin crew members are key to the successful and safe operation of this airline, and as customer facing ambassadors, their work satisfaction and morale remain a high priority. In addition, we must ensure business continuity through stable operations and provide our customers with a sense of travel certainty.”

The SAA Board of Directors reiterated that they remained committed to supporting management and the labour union to find lasting solutions to issues under dispute and that a mechanism was proposed for consideration by SACCA to have a facilitated dispute resolution process during the next two months.

“We are inviting SACCA back to the negotiating table as soon as possible and would like parties to have open minds when deliberating and considering options. It is in the interests of all parties to find lasting solutions to the issues in dispute. We remain confident that a final solution to this matter will be found in the coming days,” said Tlali.

SAA said that the financial sustainability of the airline remained of paramount importance to the Board and Executive of SAA and the programme to ensure that the airline’s financial situation was turned around was in full steam to ensure that SAA returned to profitability once again.

I leave in a week...

Strikes over in R SA can go on a long time! They had a postal strike a couple or three of years back that went on for over six months!

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.
