U.S. Gov't. Security alert.

The US Government has issued a security alert on 26 October saying ‘The U.S. government has received information that terrorists may be planning to conduct an attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg, South Africa, on 29 October 2022. There is no further information regarding the timing, method, or target of the potential attack. The U.S. Embassy has advised staff to avoid crowds of people and other large public gatherings in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg during the weekend of 29-30 October 2022’.

You should stay away from crowds of people and other large public gatherings in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg during the weekend of 29-30 October 2022.

Headed to SA in June. If I were there now, this alert wouldn’t be concerning. I’m going there to get away from areas like Sandton! We have upscale areas in cities all over the U.S. I avoid them as a matter of course.

Not concerning to me either.

If you are in a large gathering in any large U.S. city, you are subject to the same thing.

Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Portland, Seattle, and New Orleans are probably at least as dangerous, if not worse.

Not a lot of information about this alert , seems like the SA police do not agree with the alert either . Will be interesting to know the facts . The alert is for a specific area , namely Sandton , so if any doubt just stay away from Sandton for the period mentioned . Not an issue in our lives anyway , we suffer armed attacks daily here so just another day in SA .

Information I have is there is a pride parade there this weekend. Fairly easy to avoid a large gathering like that. And a one time event . It's a shame because I really like Sandton for layovers. Much safer than Johannesburg proper.

Extra police were deployed around Sandton today and the Pride event took place without a hitch apparently.

SA govt has been whining about the Americans publicising the threat "without consulting them"...
African speak for "we were asleep on the job, next time please wake us up when you have news about our country" :ROFLMAO:

Luckily we are not doing much hunting in the greater Sandton area...

U.S. security alerts what a joke.
