After a very successful hunt in April with Lauren and Juan Stander at @LJ SAFARIS, we had made plans for a second hunt together in 2025. However, I managed to clear a few days in my diary earlier this month and made it back to the Eastern Cape earlier than expected.

We made a plan to pursue a few new trophies, and improve on some I had hunted previously, and so we set out for Jamestown for a short 5-day hunt in pursuit of vaal rhebok, steenbok, caracal, and a few other targets of opportunity.

Over the course of the hunt, we secured a number of trophies which all met my high standards for trophy quality. These included two stunning steenbok, one with horns 5 inches in length, and the other even longer, at over 5.5 inches, as well as an 8 inch vaal rhebok, a blesbok of over 17.5 inches, a white blesbok of 16.5 inches, and a very old and unusual mountain reedbuck that exceeded 6 inches.

Some management animals were also taken along the way.

A particular highlight was a mature male caracal, which had been killing lambs on a nearby farm, and which fortunately presented long enough for a shot. A 400m shot on a big baboon, which turned out to be the largest of the 10+ males I have shot on various hunts rounded out the bag.

As always, Lauren and Juan went above and beyond to deliver, even at very short notice, with meticulous attention to detail and a great ability to judge trophy quality, alongside first class service all round.

I'm looking forward to another ambitious hunt with LJ Safaris in May next year, and if anyone has any questions about their operation, I'm very happy to discuss my experiences.

Great trophies, congrats !

Good to see Zulu! Glad he is well.

Nice critters you found and some nice pics.

Strong tracker! He carried many of those trophies off the mountain for us.

One of the greatest benefits of
Hunting in Africa is the most competent help tracking and retrieving game through and from some tough places.

Congrats on some very nice trophies.

Thank you, and yes, their help is invaluable. I've worked with excellent PHs, and some 'less excellent' PHs over the years, but the trackers, skinners, and other members of the team always put rings around what we have here in Europe.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
