It’s been five years since my last trip to Africa when I hunted in Zimbabwe so was very eager to get back. Landed in Joburg on the 3rd of August after a long couple of flights from Aus. Stayed two nights at the Sunrock Guesthouse in Kempton Park which was great. Took a day to visit Safari Outdoors and the South African Military Museum which I highly recommend.
We were hunting with Ka Maoto Safaris who was recommended by a mate who has hunted with them before. We booked back in 2023 when they had some great packages advertised. On the list for this trip was:
I wont break down each individual hunt in detail, but over the next 6 days we took all our animals with success. The only small hiccup was when my hunting buddy borrowed another hunters 308 for a try and ended up wounding his Zebra, which we were very lucky to find the next day a few kms away, still running but wounded. Other than that, all shots were clean, and no follow ups required. We opted to hire rifles instead of taking them. We were provided with a Howa .300 WM which was very sufficient for the job and shot well.
We had an amazing PH for the week, Pieter, who made for a great time, even loaning me his Mauser 9.3 for a few animals, as well as a .22 for popping Francolins and Go-away birds. We got to hunt across multiple concessions and saw some beautiful country and lots of game.
Overall, it was a great experience and couldn’t have asked for more. Very glad we made the choice to book with Ka Maoto Safaris. I highly recommend them if you are looking to book a hunt in SA.
